$150 buy in. should i play?

poker this weekend. $150 buy in. i know its alot but winner takes home $3500 (its a tournament). should i play?

how many people?

Depends how you many people finish in the money. Just take it slow and don't make a bold move unless you are certain you have the best hand. Wait until it gets narrowed down to play aggressively.

30 people. $4500 in the pot. 2nd place gets $1000. that gives me a 2/30 chance of actually winning money. and these people are good, i think i am going to bail out.

I say go for it, but it depends on the tourney structure—length of levels, payouts, and so on. It sounds like a pretty top-heavy payout...but if you're confident enough, do it.

Poker books always help. Barnes and Noble lets you read for free. ;)

texas hold'em. no cashing out.

don't go

waste of money.

sounds like fun.

but i agree, if they're good players. sit it out. there'll always be tournaments with worse players...

anybodt here actually play hold'em?

If only top 2 get money, don't play. I play.

Well it depends on how good you are. Do you know who is going to be playing? You know the saying: "If you dont know who the fool is then sadly you are probably the fool". ;)

Anyways sounds like fun.

yeah i have played with about 1/2 the people. we had a small tournament last week $80 first price which i won. but that was with about 5 people...that are going to be at the tournament this weekend. 3-4 of the people playing are REALLY good and when i say good i mean they have each one over $8000 in poker money.

I play a lot of random tourneys with friends and random people, its just for fun and of course, money.

I am not that good but I do okay. I just try to play my hand conservatively when in big tourney since I dont have a lot of money......

Don't go, it can morph into a deadly habit. Don't you have anything better to do with your $150?

^no not really.

do it. it's only 150 dollars. Learn to take risks.

Poor payout structure. A smart poker player would recognize it as a losing proposition.

"Don't go, it can morph into a deadly habit. Don't you have anything better to do with your $150?"

Do you not think that he already plays poker anyways? Stop being such a mother. Gambling in and of itself is not addictive.

It's your call man. A lot of it depends on how much disposable cash you have.

I play poker every week. Usually 5 dollar games.

jpps1's got the right idea. Although some of it depends on your abilities as a player, you have more opportunities to lose than to gain.
