1500+ and Deferred

1580/2360 deferred =/

Dont worry you guys will all go to fine colleges (i mean you have 1500+ COME ON).

But the thing is that all the 1500+ deferred come to this thread so it seems like a lot of people. However, I'm sure that if you make a 1500+ and accepted, there are going to be even more people. You guys are expecting that 1500+ should generally be accepted but that's not true. Many are but many aren't either.

However, regardless, I'm sure you guys will get into some wonderful colleges!

Penn also admits a lot of legacies in ED. Are any of you legacies? It would be interesting to see if any high scorers that are also legacy material are being rejected/deferred.

I'm mostly just worried that it was my junior year grades (normal fall, dropped winter by a LOT, went up a bit spring, but not back to 'normal' for me)...and that will cause other colleges to have second thoughts about me, since I don't have any senior fall grades, being in Japan and all...

And nope, not legacy

the people on this thread are not arguing that high SAT scores automatically get us in. all of us know that we have to have a solid GPA and good EC's too, along with good essays.

"high" SAT + 4.0 and 4.7 GPA + focused EC's on stuff you really care about + good essays. what more can you do? who knows, but the result is a deferral.

1540/2290 rejected wharton yay!

1300 and deferred. Guess they loved me otherwise

oh and that was Wharton.

my friend got deferred from CAS:

He was a legacy, 2200, 4.0, good ECs, probably OK essays and good recs.

"What's this correlation between high SAT scores and no life people think exists? Did it ever cross your minds that someone could actually have the aptitude to do well on this test? "

Havgum- exactly...well said.

2110/1420 deferred

B5E5N, that's not too bad...

Take a look at the Stanford SCEA thread. Maybe it'll make you feel better. Not really.

legacy and faculty parents, great SAT/Extra currculars; deferred.. Guys, what can I still do? I kinda' need to go here.. this is the only place i get major discount for college financing.

^ That might be your biggest downfall... if your biggest motivation for going to Penn is the money, it will show. It's pretty much the opposite for other applicants, so their desire to go to the school for other reasons becomes really apparent...

Has anyone done a spreadsheet analysis of whether these accepted students with "low" SAT scores are from PA ? I know that Penn give "tips" for PA students.

2400 composite, rejected from CAS

Deferred Wharton
Low test scores:
SAT: 2120 composite ACT: 32
Leadership: Girls State Governor, NHS President, FBLA VP, Spanish NHS VP etc.
Not a legacy and needs financial aid.

Heck. When I put it this way, I wouldn't accept myself either.
I really had my heart set on Penn. To be honest, I saw this coming. I haven't done any other applications. That's my fault entirely. It's hard to focus on those when the Penn app made me think about life before/at/after Penn with their essays.
No matter. It's time to kick it in gear.

Is there anything I can do now to help change their minds? Additional rec letters? Additional essays?

At the Stanford thread, literally half the people with 2350+ are flat out rejected (not even deferred). I even saw a few people with 2400 rejected!!!!!
