I wrote a 1500 word Common App Essay that I believe to be very good and will make me look like a better applicant. I can't cut it down--maybe to 1300, but no lower. However, the Common App asks to write between 250 and 500 words. What will admissions think when they see my 1500 word essay? Has anyone gotten into a good school writing an essay this long for the Common App?

It does not matter how long you write but the essay must be interesting…one of my friends wrote like 1500 word essay and got into lafayette! and guess what…the admission officer was highly impressed by his essay…if the essay has good flow of language…then do not hesitate to submit it!

It does not ask to be written in 250~500 words. It’s just 250 words minimum.

That said, 1500 is too much. Don’t write it unless you can say with confidence that the admission officers will be genuinely impressed with you.
