1560 First Try

Hello, I just received scores for the January 2017 SAT and I got a 1560 760+800 and 7/7/7 with minimal studying. Is it worth taking it again in March with more studying or should I spend my time reviewing for the AP computer science A test?

Study for the AP test. Great job!

Don’t take it again. Congrats.

You should spend your time reviewing for the AP test.

If you want to take it again, I would advise June (lots of time in summer). Right now is AP test study time.

Only reason to retake is if you require merit, as some merit scholarships are highly based on scores.

Nope. You’re done. Congrats!

Agreed. Never take it again. Do bigger and better things with your time.

*Think * bigger than trying to squeeze the last few points out. If you hope to use that score for a highly competitive college, you’d better learn that it’s not just stats, what else matters. CC can be pretty suspicious of kids fussing over the wrong things.

In a talk to parents at our HS, the Dean of Admissions at USC flat out advised against taking tests more than 2x & if you hit your goal score the first time, be done, keep up your grades, do sports/EC & have fun! He flat out said that they (USC & other top schools) do not see any difference in a 1550-1600 score. Once you are that high, it doesn’t matter. They want to see your 1560 matched with an impressive GPA & ECs you are passionate in & an essay that conveys to them who you are. He said too much focus is on the test scores & not on the essay – which really is the key to getting in.

Another vote for no retake. That’s a fabulous score. You run the risk of doing worse next time, as apparently forty percent of high scorers do. Wouldn’t it be a drag to have to submit a second test score that is lower than the first if you apply to a school that wants all tests? You are done:-)
