Def. Tufts syndrome. GWU normally gives full scholarships to people like you...you were simply literally too good for them.

Maybe you got into the habit of slightly adjusting your stats and accidentally did it on your application somewhere, hence an automatic rejection?

Just throwing it out there... I really don't understand why 10 points on your SAT either way makes any difference.

dude that is very ridiculous, you should have gotten in and gotten like a scholarship

my friend got waitlisted too
seems like theres quite a few this year...

Yeah, if you're waitlisted at a school that isn't tippy tippy top with great stats and good extracurriculars/essays/recs, you should probably call in and tell them they're your top choice school.

GWU isn't my first choice. that's why i said i was being selfish before.

donatejimmy,

i was waitlisted...SAT: 2210(M710, W760, R740), SAT 2: math:800, bio:720, gpa:4.53, 3.83

did u by chance apply to the ba/md program?? did u ask for financial aid??

i know its unexpected but maybe they know you are not going to go there...
u have really good stats, u should be really proud of yourself!!! and im sure u will be accepted to a GREAT school, so don't worry :)

If you really love GWU and really want to get off the waitlist, try some things I'm doing right now to get off the WashU waitlist, and read this thread:

I was also surprised with my waitlisting at GWU. I have a feeling, as might be true in my situation, that students rejected from the BA/MD program had a higher chance of being waitlisted, as they might be expected to have applied to GWU in the first place for the program more so than the school. Thus, those rejected from the BA/MD program might not seem likely to the admissions office to end up attending the school.

Lol well I guess you can consider it a compliment that you got waitlisted!

Damn, I guess since I got denied my stats were lookin' GOOD lol.

Do you think that Hopkins would have deterred them? That was the only other prestigious school that I put on my application. Tell me what you guys think.

oh come on! GW is drunken with Tufts syndrome!

How can you say it's Tufts syndrome when many students with similarly high stats as those waitlisted/rejected were accepted? That just doesn't make sense.

the only person with the same stats as me that i know that was accepted

was accepted to the pre-med program

Tufts Syndrome.

researchmaven, because alot fo them if you read their stats said that they showed alot of interest. thats the diff. if they know that youre prob. going to go to their school and you have the stats to get in, they will accept you obviously. But for me, they saw that i had applied to lots of ivies (through that one question on their apps), and other top schools like JHU, NYU etc, so they thought that i wasnt going to go. also, some of the other ppl like me applied to their ba/md progra mand got rejected from that and then waitlisted at the college even with very high stats. so there are alot of reasons, but it comes down to the "whether i will go or not" and i guess they guessed right.. i wasnt considering GW at all really. hha

So I guess the admissions people at Gw did a pretty good job. As you said, you weren't considering GW at all, so why would they want to admit someone like you, who basically just wasted everyone's time. They had to store, sort, read, and discuss your application even though you say you had no interest. Hmmm...
Lots of logical fallacies and rationalizing going on here.

well actually in my essays i did show interest bc i applied to their ba/md program and wrote essays that actually showed research and thought. and i visited im just saying that out of all the colleges i applied to it was number 4 of places i want to go the most. and i applied to about 9 places.

well if you really want to attend, and its not just that you feel like your ego is bruised from being waitlisted, call and show that you still have a lot of interest into goin to that school. Send in updates and stuff.

i dotn really have any updates but im considering sending the m an email of interest. honostly, i really think it is bc originally i was rejected fom their BA/MD program. but watever, i got into NYU and im looking forward to going there more. im just saying i was shocked that i didnt get in.

wht's the deal with colleges nowadays. how the heck does g.w. reject people like this? Do they think that they are that high up? my friend with 29 ACT and 2.9 gpa got into g.w. last year. this is an outrage, really.
