I'm deciding between HP's tx2z 12" tablet and the HDX 16t. The former is about 4lbs and the latter 7.5. I'm wondering if I should get the tx2z for portability but everyone I've talked to at my school has said they've never taken their notebook to class with them. But I'm a Business major and they were all theater majors... What do you all think?

Just because you don’t take it to class doesn’t mean you won’t ever take it anywhere.

That being said, the majors can play a role. I’m a pre-pre-business major, and from what was said at orientation, there’s a lot of groupwork involved in some of the classes, in which portability would be nice. Also, my brother is a theater major, and I don’t think his computer is used for much outside of Facebook.

Of course, neither of those computers is “heavy”, per se, and by those weights, are both fairly portable. I personally wouldn’t want anything larger than 15", but that’s just personal preference.

Even a 4lb laptop can become a hassle to carry when you have to carry it along with everything you need for a day. Someone recommended having a more powerful computer at home and then a netbook to take to lecture. If you can be comfortable with the little keyboard, this seems like the best option. You can get a netbook for 200-250 dollars.

i think the best size for a laptop screen is 13", since it’s not as small as a netbook and not as bulky as large screen laptops. believe me, you’ll want to carry that laptop around, and 16" is just too bulky, besides you don’t sacrifice performance with a 13" laptop as you do with a netbook. many brands have cheap 13" laptops, so i would take a look at those.

Wow I never saw any of these replies. Anyways, I bought a 13" Macbook Pro. Way different than the topic start.

Congratulations. They’re great machines!

Yup. although I strongly recommend going with a windows system, the 13" Pro will be great for you.

why did you pick a macbook if you’re a business major?
