You make going to UCB seem like a bad thing.

I'd say Berkeley's a match. You have a shot at Wharton, though it's probably a reach.

because ur gpa and ECs are prety good and SAT IIs i think u have a decent shot at both. I think Wharton really doesnt hinge on scores. Its more of your interest and how you demonstrate that (kids from my school who are SO bad at SATs and ACTs got into wharton no prob because they were student body pres, BPA president, etc)

nah, berkeley is a great thing. i would just love to experience an urban setting on the east coast in a school with a great business program and a legit shot for me to get into.

does anyone know if my 2180, which is good, will be too low for wharton, a school on CC where i see everyone is above 2300?

I am in the exact same position as you...I have a 2180 superscored, and I'm worried because I'm also aiming for Ivy caliber schools. I think our test scores are a little low, but they'll do. I took the ACT and scored a 33, which rests at about the 75th percentile compared to a 2180, which is around the 50th. The statistics are a little skewed of course, but it definitely looks better. I suggest you try the ACT?

So, other than test scores, I'd say you're definitely qualified. Great rank, pretty strong EC's (glad to see another Asian who doesn't do Math team haha), I'd say you're an essay and a bit of luck away from an acceptance. Remember, Wharton is one of the most competitive programs in the country, so don't be too bummed out if you don't get in! Anyway, great chances. Good luck!

Keep in mind, that if you want to major in business at Berkeley, you'll have to apply to Haas as a sophomore for admittance during your junior year...No guarantees there. If you get in Wharton, go for it.

A 2180 is just fine. They aren't going to see much of a difference between someone who got a 2180 and someone who got a 2300. The stats get you to the door (and a 2180 does just that); it's the other parts of the app--essays, ECs, honors/awards, etc.--that get you through the door.

thanks everyone. i really appreciate it!! anyone else?

For Wharton I'd say the only major factor would be your low SAT I Scores ('low' comparatively - 90% of the applicant pool usually has 2200+)

but since ur excellent in all other areas, i'd say that will easily make up for the SAT scores, and you will probally get into wharton.

ahh soo optmistic. be as honest and brutal as you want guys. but i do realize there is nothing i can do now but to wait for that december 15 date!

What's your source on that? I've never seen such data, and I'm really doubtful of its truth. Sure, many of those admitted probably have a 2200+ (given how selective Wharton is), but I'd be skeptical of anything that says that 90% of them have over a 2200, much less 90% of the applicant pool. Wharton is about as selective as HYPS, and their average SATs aren't even that high. Plus, even if this were true, a 2180 is close enough to a 2200 -- how 20 points below the bar can be considered "low," I don't know.

kyledavid: he's an Asian male meaning his standards are brought up dramatically. A 2180 is definitely on the low side for a school as selective as Wharton; however, I have noticed that Wharton especially, is more interested in a higher GPA than a higher SAT. Your SAT II's are also pretty lacking because that Chinese counts for almost nothing considering that is your natural language. Your only hardcore science is Chem and you didn't score so well. Again to kyledavid, there is a HUGE difference between 2180 and 2300. I believe you probably scored fairly low on the SAT's and are aiming high for the Ivies, which makes you want to compensate by calming your nerves on this forum.

bumpp, how much would it affect me if i wrote chinese was my first language? does my sat II score get thrown away for that? i am a permanent resident right now and i came to the state when i was 6 months old.

^^^^ yeah that wouldnt help either
even if ur parents only spoke chinese at home, there is no reason why you couldnt develop your english at school

^^ so what do you mean. do they throw away the score? does anyone know?

It wouldn't help you get in...they would probably just ignore it.

crappp oh eff me. great hahah
