17 units... too much?

So I'm a junior transfer (English major) coming to Cal in the fall, and I'm signed up for the following classes:

English 45A (4 units)
English 45B (4 units)
Linguistics 100 (4 units)
German 1 (5 units)

Can anyone tell me if this would be too much for my first semester @ Cal? I've been in college for two years and though I would definitely be able to handle a similar schedule @ the community college I came from I'm not sure how much harder Cal is going to be.... I've signed up for a 2-unit DeCal as a backup in case I need to drop the German and I'm on the waitlist for a .5 unit PE class as well.

I would drop the German unless you need it for some reason (or have already studied the language). Starting from scratch will require a lot of time and energy. 45A and 45B are going to keep you very busy, with expectations and grading standards FAR beyond anything at CC, and you may find Linguistics 100 quite challenging as well.
