17r

i heard cadets have an MOS of 17R, is that true?

according to this websit http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjobs/a/arjobs.htm

17r does not exist.

USMA Cadets don't get an MOS, they are just "cadets." You will be considered active duty and have an ID card that says so, but nowhere will an MOS show up. You won't even get your branch MOS till you graduate, and then they are all "A"s (for example, MPs are 31 series now, so I'm a 31A). As for Cadet rank in relation to the actual army, TECHNICALLY, cadets rank (if I remember correctly) above enlisted, but just below Warrants. BUT...YOU BETTER, as a cadet, give those NCOs the respect and enlisted Soldier would give them...i.e, you'll stand at parade rest for them, respect them as knowing what they do know, cause they definitely know more than you, they will not salute you, etc. So, DON'T ever try to, as a cadet, tell a TAC NCO you out rank them cause I assure you that your TAC officer will make sure you have a not so nice day. Just a tip. (and none of this was directed at anyone specifically, just came to mind when I saw the posts on MOS).

Update--check out this week's version of the "Army Times" for a full run down on all the current MOS's---enliste,d officer, etc!

I'd like to see that. Telling your TACs you outrank them! I think you'd be walking hours till your feet bled. Its like that time I told my Econ teacher I wasn't taking his test cause I was staging a "coup." He replied that he expects to hear me saying the same thing at West Point at 0530 in the morning instead of getting out of bed. (Followed by them booting me out the front gates)

if the cadets staged a coup and captured the top eschelon leadership, i think that could make CNN. i wonder what would happen. btw, i had never heard 17R either, but i heard someone mention it.

Lol. I think the USMA is least likely place to ever have any type of unrest. I mean, come on, I can't even imagine a protest at USMA (That would definitely make CNN and all the Cadets involved would likely be separated). It can and would never happen. The Cadets are part of the hierarchy at West Point. Its not like the Cadets versus administration. A lot of Cadets are technically part of the school's administration.

covers mouth and looks the other way

We riot. It's just not that destructive. Only printers being thrown out of windows and flaming rolls of toilet paper. And of course cadets support the administration. The gray/green rivalry is just friendly!

uhm- i've seen rotc cadets wear class A greens, do wp cadets ever wear class a greens?

Not until they graduate. USMA will issue you several thousand dollars worth of uniforms you can never use again.

Our version of greens is season dependent. Winter it's Dress Gray (Think Dr. Evil from Austin Powers) Summer, it's white over gray, white collared cotton shirt with gray wool pants.
