18.311 spring term freshman year?

i'm not considering this that seriously, but just thought i'd ask. this would work if i study a bit and pass the 18.03 ASE during IAP(i've taken diffeqs before).

pros - i can get on to more interesting stuff in applied math (i'm probably doing 18C or 18-2)

cons - i might survive, and even get a good grade, but might not get a full appreciation for the subject. ---but then again, i'd have the prereqs like everyone else taking it

go for it. worst case scenario: you fail, except you're still on A/B/C/NR, so nothing happens.

thekidhere: Careful with that line of logic. A/B/C/NR aside, if you pass fewer than 36 units you can end up on CAP Warning. And I don't know if the OP is planning to take sophomore standing in the spring or not, but if they do, they'll lose A/B/C/NR.

To the OP: If you have the prereqs, you're qualified to take it, don't worry about that. The catch is that many people need to adjust to their first term on grades. Taking too hard a schedule in that term can really hurt.

thanks,

no i won't be eligible for soph. standing.

that is a good point that i hadn't considered though.
although so far i'm pretending there's grades and shooting for As and Bs, just so i can form good habits early on -- mine need a lot of correcting. but admittedly it is not exactly the same thing
