1st Annual DSM College Audition Workshop

This looks like a great opportunity for a high level mock audition with feedback from multiple college programs. The timing perfect since it happens well before the college MT audition season begins, giving time to make adjustments as needed.

From the Dallas Summer Musicals (DSM) website:

What a great opportunity-I think it would be very beneficial for rising juniors and seniors.

broadway95 - I agree! And I sure wish the theatre faculty from the Michigan MT programs would take a page from the Texas MT faculty’s book!

I’m new here, but have been following for quite some time. This workshop seems to offer a wealth of opportunity for anyone new to this process! Thank you do-what-you-luv for this info! I would not have known about this without your post! Signing my daughter up-NOW!

luvmyMTgirl, I had to do a double take when i saw your name, since I knew I hadn’t posted to this thread. :-)

Is your daughter a rising senior?

Oh, my… I just signed up this afternoon and had no idea I was duplicating your name! If it’s possible for me to change my username I will!

Answering your question: my daughter is a rising junior. Anyone out there know how I can change my name to something more original???

No worries with me on your name. I happen to love it!

Hello! First time poster here. I am wondering if this is open to non Texas residents?
Thanks!

Yes it is. We are thinking about it. Google “Dallas summer musicals,” and then once you get that page click on the link on the bottom left for high school music theatre awards. The college audition workshop info is in this section. There is a tab on general info, schedule, registration, etc. It says open to any high school student.
here’s a link. Think it will work.

That is correct. The website states “Participation is open to any high school age student.”

Before posting, I verified with Kaitlin Hopkins (the primary organizer of the event) that it means just that - it is not limited to Texas residents - all are welcome.

Note: If you looked at the website last week, it indicated in order to register to participate in the Mock Audition, you were required to submit a Prescreen Video, that requirement has been removed.

The site now states: “In an effort to make the process easier, after consulting with our colleges, we have streamlined the registration form, eliminating the need to upload an video in order to register.”

Dowhatuluv- I have some questions about the schedule. Do you have an email for Kaitlyn Hopkins? I couldn’t find anywhere on the site to direct questions.
I’m trying to figure out if we need to be there all day on both days.

dramamom0804 - I just saw the schedule last night and had the same question - she is out of pocket for a couple days, but I expect to be in touch with her in the next day or so, I will ask and post.

Great! Thanks. I am guessing the kids would do their audition and dance call on one day. If that day is Saturday, then it seems like we could head home Sunday afternoon and save a night in the hotel…

That’s what I’m thinking too… but I’d say get your app in ASAP so you can opt for Saturday audition and still see all program morning presentations.

dramamom0804 - You will want to attend BOTH DAYS!

Here’s what Kaitlin said:
Participants will attend “both days because different schools are there on each day, so they actually do all their audition material twice.”

This is awesome because by the time these kids do their first “real” audition, they will have had 2 auditions under their belt, not to mention feedback and direction from 7 different programs! Sounds like it will be worth a second night in a hotel!

Hotel note:
Check out Hotels dot com. I’ve used them since we started the college search process - I book thru them for most trips and between auditions for 2 kids, followed by all the trips for move in and move out, college shows, and summer stock, we have gotten several free nights (it’s actually an average of your past 10 stays).

We registered! We may not go if I can’t work everything out but didn’t want to miss the chance…

As of this morning, there are only 20 slots left!

I am trying to register my daughter, but nothing happens when I hit “submit”.

I don’t know what maybe wrong but I got a confirmation email within a couple of minutes of registering.
