1st BCS Rankings of 2008 Out - Wildcats in Top 25

At 6-1, Northwestern sits ranked at #22 in the country in the season's first BCS rankings!

Per ESPN U: "The computers love Northwestern, ranking the Wildcats tied with LSU at 19th."

Next week at Indiana. Biggest challenge coming up - our next home game on November 8 is against the Buckeyes. Fortunately, if you've followed the Wildcats, miracles do happen.

Should be a W at Indiana. MN is gonna be a challenge.

I hope Penn St beats Ohio State next week. Then we will have a chance to go to the Rose Bowl (at least in theory).

Agree that IU should be a win and that Minny is going to be a tough one.

If the 'Cats beat Minny, a 9-3 season is a real possibility, but the injury to MLB Arrington is troublesome.

9-3 is definitely possible but I am actually dreaming 11-1.

I wasn't thinking straight. If Ohio State beats Penn State, then we'll have a chance to not only go to the Rose Bowl but also be the Big10 champion!

I know we shouldn't look past Minny but what do you think about our chances against Ohio State?

Imagimotive - Magnolia, TX

Did anyone watch the MSU v. Ohio State game? After seeing OSU dominate that game, and after watching Pryor dance around the MSU defense, I lost almost all hope of Northwestern beating Ohio State.

Ohio State will crush NU. Maybe we won't quite lose by 40 or however many we lost by last year, but I think we'll still get crushed. Their players are bigger, faster, better. No repeat of the magic that happened in 2004, after having a losing streak to them dating back to 1971.

At least our players don't think like you do. Ohio State is very beatable. They were totally crushed by USC and they had a close game with Wisconsin. They put up only 16 points against Purdue. Given that, you still said, "Ohio State WILL crush NU"? What kind of fan are you?

I don't know, but if they want to have the confidence to beat Ohio State, they can't afford to lose this game against Indiana.

^2 fumbles and 2 interceptions vs none for Indiana. sad!

They looked too far forward and lost track of what they needed to do right now, and it cost them.

Perhaps I am a bad fan. In any case, I still think we'll get crushed, especially after watching NU in the Indiana game. Maybe Pryor will choke and throw interceptions, or something like that, so it's possible NU will win..but, I bet not. We'll have to wait for November 7th.

What a finish we just had!!! It's nice to know we will play for a bowl game!

Didn't hold out much hope against the #17 team in the nation with both Bacher and Sutton out with injuries.

Incredible win with Kafka rushing for a school record setting 217 yards.

Now 7-2 on the season with a bowl bid already guaranteed and still 3 games to go!

This is definitely amazing. Go Wildcats!

I was actually just thinking about/hoping for an interception before that play. Those MN coaches acted like it's so easy to move the ball down the field deep from their own territory and under one min. They should have just let the game go overtime. Glad to see our MIGHTY WILDCATS made them pay for such attitude. It's funny how these coaches are paid so much but didn't know better.

Week 10---#24 on BCS!

We actually have an outside chance to get to the Rose Bowl but then we can easily lose all of the three remaining games. It's a weird feeling. ;)

It will be very difficult for Northwestern to be placed in the BCS ahead of Ohio State or Penn State. If it does go 10-2, it may have a shot, but if Ohio State or Penn State don't mess up, then I doubt they will make the BCS. Probably Capital One if 10-2, maybe Alamo.

So uh, here's hoping 9-3 and the Alamo Bowl!

I was afraid that dOSU was going to win handily.

It would have been one thing if the 'Cats had played dOSU 4-5 weeks ago when Pryor was still learning the ropes and Wells was still out (maybe chance for an upset), but w/ all the injuries to the 'Cats, it didn't look good.

W/ Bacher, Arrington (a key loss at MLB) and of course, Sutton out - that pretty much took away the team's best skill players (Browne at DE was a big loss as well - that guy is going to a beast next year if his knees hold out).

In addition to already having lost the starting TE, CB and a few other positions.

If the 'Cats still had Sutton, I'd say that they would have had a good chance to beat both UM and UI to finish off the season. Now, I'd be happy w/ a split.
