1st generation college

2 questions:

Does it benefit to be the 1st gen college student in your family? If so, why?

I know that most schools do not enforce affermative action anymore, but would you think that colleges would more likely accept a “pacific islander” over a “chinese-american” given that they both have the same application?

Yes, because it promotes diversity. Being the first person in your family to go to college means that you likely overcame odds and despite little encouragement decided to go to college. Schools would like have these motivated students in their class.
