Im currently a freshman at a university (ucsd) and am planning on transfering somewhere after my first year. Im new to the whole transfer thing.. so i was wondering... when i appy to schools as a transfer for fall 05, what college grades will they see? we're on the quarter system, so will they only see my first quarter, or will they see 2nd and 3rd also?
Im alittle concerned bc i definitly want to transfer, and as soon as possible, but definitly havent done well my first quarter here (2.88)(i havent been working nearly as hard as i should be...). Im not a 2.88 student at all and reeeeeaaaaalllllllllllly plan on kicking butt next quarter (ill have to if i plan on transfering right?) I need the next two quarters inorder to bring my gpa up. Does that mean i probably wont be able to apply for fall 05? What do you guys think..? (any and all input appreciated!.. thanks so much :)

It depends on the school you plan to transfer to for fall of 2005. If the application deadline is after your winter quarter ends, you will obviously be able to enter in those grades. Some other schools may request reports for grades after you submit your application. Moreover, you need to get that 2.88 up. Where are you considering transferring to?

hehe, well im in love with u of michigan (my#1), and i think ill also apply to nyu and tufts (i would love to go to school in boston).. and probably some others too(i should probably start thinking about it)... but im really hoping that michigan will accept me. I was lucky enough to be accepted out of high school at michigan.. so i guess my hs record is good enough.. but now, my college record... not so much...
Do you think i have a chance? at all?

What major are you applying to? You may been accepted from high school, but since your college grades have dropped you will have to prove to them that you can handle college and that your low GPA for your first quarter was merely due to a new environment or whatever your reason is.

My guess is that the only way you would have a shot at getting into those schools (if they only see 2 quarters of grades) is for you to get a 4.0 this next quarter. If you start getting good grades there is no reason why you couldn't transfer after sophomore year though.

Thanks guys.. its all been really helpful :)

wahoo has a goog point. Anything below a 3.00 is going to give you a disadvantage. You can't turn back the clocks, so there's nothing you can do. Don't stress, just keep on truckin.

If it makes you feel better, most potential transfers I know didn't do as well as they wanted their first semester. I know I didn't AT ALL
