anybody have an answer to this? Application instructions were a little fuzzy.

im pretty sure your guidance counselor will send first quarter grades in.

Yes they do.

if ED notification is Dec 15, how would they get the grades in on time?

Mid year reports only contain the first marking period's (or trimster) grades for senior year..so i wouldnt think that colleges would get the first quarter grades.

Im not that familiar with the 1/4 system...our school uses 1/3s instead

anyone care to enlighten us?

For schools on the quarter system, the first quarter is over. Grades are available or will be available very soon.

A trimester doesn't fit in as well. It may be that someone from the admissions office will have to call the guidance counselor and get a feel for what the grades are likely to be. If the grades look as though they are going to be strong (especially if junior year wasn't that strong), do whatever you can to get the information to Middlebury as soon as you can, even if it can only be an estimate given by the guidance counselor over the telephone.

At a fall meeting for parents of seniors, our GC told us that pretty much ALL the ED schools request 1st quarter grades from guidance, and warned against senior year slump/slacking/whatever.
