just wondering, when one applies for SCEA and your guidance counselor sends in first marking period grades (we work on a quarter system) would stanford take those into account? and if so, how much does it affect your application?

they do take it into account. but your grades from soph and junior year are the bulk of their concers. but they definitely look at first quarter grades senior year as well, and what classes you'll be taking.

What if we're on semesters?

same....they'll take your first semester grades into consideration as well. just not as much as soph and junior. but they DO look at them so don't slack off...until 2 semester like i did. haha.

I would say that it depends when you're semester grades come out. For example, the semester system we have at my school is arranged so that our transcripts don't come out until mid-February, which is WAY after decisions are out for SCEA. Usually, if you want schools to consider your 1st semester grades, you would apply RD instead.

^oh yeah, that's true. i completely forgot that SCEA gets decisions back so early. it's mid-dec right? ah it's been too long since HS. i'm gettin old.

waiit a minute, stanford doesnt look at quarter grades. i was on a quarter system too, but there's only a mid-year report and the final transcript. the transcript you send SCEA probably doesnt have your quarter grades on them, just semester, meaning it doesnt have first quarter grades. at least, thats how it worked for me. they do however see your semester grades in the mid-year report. so dont worry too much about quarter grades first quarter senior year.

what if your guidance counselor decides to send 1st quarter senior year grades anyways? would they be considered?

^not if you applied SCEA. maybe if you're waitlisted they'll look at it, but chances are you'll either get accepted or rejected.
