Can any students tell me if this courseload would be too rigorous for first semester freshman year? I'm worried that it may be a bit much, and if it is, what would you recommend dropping?

Organic Chem I
Bio Bases of Behavior
Writing 101
Advanced Spanish Writing (Spanish 301)

I plan on doing premed, minoring in Spanish, and majoring in psych.

OP - Typically, premeds will take calc and general chem first year. Organic chem and bio second year, and physics and two bio electives third year.

Have you already completed calc and gen chem thru a local college or AP credits? The schedule you propose seems very reasonable as long as you are getting your prereqs out of the way.

Thanks for your help! And yea, I have 5’s on Calc BC and Chem, so I’ll be going straight into organic. And do you think that 830 am lectures are terrible? I’m gonna be stuck with one.

OP - Let me tell you, lol, if you plan to go to medical school, which will require 3:30 AM rounds for surgery rotation, you might want to go ahead and get used to 8:30 classes.

I don’t think orgo first semester is too rough if the OP is prepared to work a bit harder. People that run into trouble in orgo are often caught flatfooted by the intensity of college coursework because they breezed through AP Chem and thought they can handle orgo. With the right mindset and work ethic, orgo first semester isn’t a guaranteed GPA killer (though it has the potential to be). The thing to be concerned about may be the combination of orgo, writing 101, and advanced spanish writing. Those three courses sound like a lot of homework depending on which specific courses/teachers and the bio bases of behavior sounds like a fair amount of reading. I’d put off the spanish course if possible.

I’ve seen many people take schedules similar to yours and do well.

Orgo will be your toughest class and biggest time commitment.

Neuroscience 101 was my favorite class of freshman year. It’s challenging, but definitely manageable. You’ll have three tests, a research paper, and three short writing assignments spread across the semester.

Writing 101 can be really easy if you select the right course.

Advanced Spanish Writing is difficult from what I’ve heard. As a freshman, however, your options are limited as the easier Spanish classes have already filled.

Definitely a doable schedule, though. Good luck!
