Hi, I don’t have a very good High School Counselor or anybody to really ask for help about these things so I was hoping for hoping to get some honest help.
I have received two “D” grades in HS once in my first semester of Chemistry Honors and the second was my second semester of Trig/Pre-Cal Honors my HS counselor told me I could still apply to CSU because I already had Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra 2 H. Also because I am currently in APES. I just received a “D” for my first semester of AP Statistics (taking the class was a mistake, to begin with, and I am dropping it) I have an overall GPA of 3.1 with an SAT Score of 1030 (New SAT) and just wondering if I totally screwed myself and should be going to a recruiters office soon Applied to CSUSB, SJSU, SDSU, CSUN, CSU Sacramento, also APU and USC (obviously USC I have no chance and just for giggles and to say I applied). When reporting the grade how should it be done?
I hope I explained myself well and thank you any feedback is appreciated!
- Any D’s received in 10-11th grades for a-g courses will be included in your CSU GPA unless you repeat that semester.
- CSU’s offer grade validation for Math courses which means if you pass 2nd semester Trig/Pre-Cal with a C or higher or you pass a higher level Math, then the D grade is validated. However, if you do not repeat the Math class where you received the D, then it is calculated into your CSU GPA.
- Chemistry cannot be Validated in this way so you need to retake the course or take another lab based science and pass to meet the CSU requirement. Have you taken Biology or Physics and passed?
- Assuming you are a Senior, D’s and F’s Senior year could result in your acceptances being rescinded.
Each CSU has a different “tolerance” for D’s and F’s so much will depend upon on each school.
Out of your list, CSUSB might be the only CSU willing to consider you.
The rest are unlikely to accept you in the first place with you current stats and several will (SDSU) or could rescind your acceptance if you are admitted.
What you can do now is notify each CSU and find out your options such as retaking a class during the summer.
Also look at your local community college since they all have articulation agreements to the CSU’s and if you do well there, you could transfer to your choice CSU.
Do not give up hope and wait to see what happens with your acceptances. Best of luck and there are many paths that you can take towards getting a college education.
