1st Semester Junior Year went wrong..... Is it possible to make up for it and get into a Good UC?

Evening,

I recently got my report card and was disappointed by the grades I got.

Music A
AP Chem B
Spanish 3 C
Physics A
Pre Cal B
AP ENG A
APUSH A

Total weighted GPA is 3.86 and my un-weighted is 3.4

So, is it possible to make up for this loss?

I know I could probably raise up that C in Spanish next semester, but is there anyway to repair the damage already caused?

I know EC are a big factors such as Academic Decathlon, School Robotics… But…

I am still clueless and scared of my future applying to the big UC’s engineering programs (UCSD, UCI are my reach)

Tips?

More important, helpful advice???

What’s done is done. Work super hard second semester (drop some activities if you need to) as that is really your last chance to get your UC GPA up.

Don’t be scared about your future. Your GPA is pretty solid. Apply to some safeties such as Cal States to ease your stress.

A 3.86 is not a bad grade by any means. Yes you have a low grade in Spanish but you have a high GPA. You realize you don’t need a 4.0 to get into some good schools. These posts are starting to annoy me with the I have a terrible GPA then have a 3.8 which is far from terrible.

Terrible = Drastically lower chance to get into a UC. That is how I see it.

Plus, everyone averages a 4.0+ at my school.

Where I come from, the only known good CalState is Poly SLO or SJSU. Both are hard too ._.

With 3 AP classes, your max possible UC GPA is about a 4.0 assuming straight A’s in spring semester. A sub-4.0 GPA wouldn’t be competitive for UCSD, UCD, UCSB, or UCI Engineering, but you should get into the lower UCs (UCSC, UCR, and UCM), most of the CSUs, and possibly Cal Poly SLO.

One C will not “make or break” your chances, but since you are aiming for a competitive major at competitive UC’s, it will be slightly harder. Finish up your Junior year and see where you stand. I agree that your GPA is not terrible, but you may have to lower your expectations. There are so many good schools beyond the few you have listed, where you could do well and excel in Engineering. Keep up the hard work and Good Luck.

It is hard to chance without any standardized testing. But it looks like hope is still alive.
