1st Time on Academic Probation, Questions

Hi, this is my first forum post on here and I need some help…

I currently go to a community college in California, have a 2.5 GPA (before the final grades are posted), and taking 4 classes right now. The thing is, I thought I had dropped those classes through the school’s website, but, the drop did not go through. It’s my fault for not checking. I haven’t gone to those classes and haven’t done any of the work for the past month or two. So, I most likely am failing all of them and I know that my low GPA will get my on academic probation. I know I have 2 semesters to improve my GPA to at least 2.0 so, I can retain my financial aid and such.

My questions are, should I immediately retake those 4 classes this next semester instead of the new ones I’ve already registered for? Or can I take my new classes, and retake those 4 after next semester? Which would be the better plan? Also if I do not take summer semester classes, would that count as one of the 2 semesters I have to help my GPA?

If you already signed up for classes in the fall, continue with them. But make sure that you are taking classes you will finish and with a passing grade. Summer does not count as a semester for academic probation.

Make sure you read the syllabus for each class you take and their policy on withdrawing. Some classes require that you notify the professor that you are dropping (in addition to dropping the class on line). And always double check.

Thanks for your input. C:

Actually I would recommend retaking the F’s as soon as possible. Those F’s are going to be a weight on your GPA until you can replace them. Especially if you only have earned a few credits; the F’s are not going to be outweighed by one good semester.

Thank you for your answer. C:

I plan to retake 2 out of the 4 I’m failing, plus another, this coming Fall semester. Another 1 of the classes the next semester afterwards (Spring), along w/ another 3 classes. And the other, whenever it happens to be available another semester. Hopefully I make it through.
