We are visiting early June, can you all please give us some hotel and restaurant recommendations? Thanks!

Ok, so I don’t have to write a book, can you narrow it down a little? How long will you be there? Are you going for Orientation? If so how many free days will you have? Are you driving or flying?

We are going for 24 hours to tour Tulane. We are flying, just wanted a close hotel and restaurant recommendation.

I’d say to stay near Tulane, not in the French Quarter. The students tend to “live” in the area right by the university so staying in the Garden District would be the most realistic to being at Tulane.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn Garden District Hotel on St. Charles Street. It was very comfortable and convenient to Tulane. Many hotels, including this one, offer a Tulane discount for visitors. We booked our hotel through the Tulane website.

oh wow! Quick trip! Some others here may have some hotel recommendations near Tulane. We always stay in the French Quarter. Magazine Street is a nice shopping/retail/dining area near Tulane. For breakfast one of my favorite places is the Camellia Grill on Carrolton. You can take the streetcar there or walk depending on where you are starting from. It’s a diner, pretty cheap but it’s a NOLA institution. Their omelets are huge, like a rolled newspaper!
Get the chocolate pecan pie for dessert. mmmmmmmm! For lunch and dinner, depending on your budget and how fancy you want to get your choices are pretty much unlimited! Some of our favorites in the Uptownish area: Atchafalya, Clancys, Le Petite Grocery, Juans Flying Burrito, Charcoal, Vincents, Dante’s, Pascal Manale and for the ultimate in fine dining Commanders Palace. What I usually tell people going to NOLA-here is where I like to eat. Basically you can’t go wrong eating in NOLA. If you are walking by a restaurant and the menu looks good, give it a try. You have to try REAL hard to have a bad meal in NOLA! Have a good visit!

If anyone can recommend a health-conscious restaurant for dinner (with lower fat menu options–i.e., not fried or creamy sauces) that would be great. We’ve been to Satsuma for lunch and really liked it. We’ll have a car, so location doesn’t matter. Thank you!

Check out the menu’s for some of these places-Carmo, Back to the Garden, Green Goddess (haven’t been here since Chef Chris DeBarr left but it still gets great reviews), Liberty’s Kitchen (part of the Workforce Development program- training young adults to cook and work in the food industry), Cafe Abyssinia (Ethiopian) ,Bennachin (African) and Cochon. Cochon is one of my favorite places. My friends love Bennechin but we haven’t been there yet.

Another is Dante’s Kitchen, which is fairly close to campus. They usually have choices that are healthier, and the food is all local sourced when possible.
