I have finished 28 credits at one of the state schools in Illinois. I was pre-pharm and have taken hard science classes. I really hated the school and couldn't really concentrate on studying with professors who barely spoke english. I ended up with a crappy Gpa:2.86.... My high school grades were around 3.9/4.0 with ACT 22. My goal is to transfer to Pepperdine,USC,Occidental or similar. I still want to go to Medical school. And, I don't think CC and UC is my option. What would you guys do? Do I have a chance to Pepperdine for bio major?

anyone, please!

You're going to have trouble transferring with less than a 3.0. 3.5 is more typical. So far it doesn't look like you've got what it takes for medicine. You'll have to hit the books.

hey; i totally know what you mean. i'm like failing my math class right now. and i want to transfer so badly -- my current school is really very stifling, but i doubt i'll have the ability to do so with my current grades :(

To the OP: have you checked the transfer acceptance rates for those schools? And ACT/SAT 25-75%iles? With that information, we would be more able to guess at your chances (altho it would only be a guess). Will you be able to get good college recs?

Are you a Cali resident? If so, why are you saying ccc and UC is not an option for you?

I am not a Cali resident as I mentioned that I am attending a state university in Illinois. The reason I do not consider UC is because I know that they are definately in-state friendly for transfers. Despite the horrible grades I got, I am considering pepperdine due to the fact that sophomore transfer applications are weighted more on their high school grades. If I have applied right after high school, I would have gotten in since I have received acceptance letters from much better schools.
As for the recs., honestly, I won't be able to get any of those, because I took a year off after the first year.

Most transfer applications require getting recs....

What are you thinking about how to handle that?

My brother was also a transfer applicant to a various colleges years ago. His Gpa was a little bit over 3 and got into several private schools like GW,Syracuse and other higher ranked state schools. All was done without a rec letter. He says rec letters don't play big part as it does for the freshmen application at least for the schools ranked beyond 35th and beyond. Also, I heard that if you have any special reasons why you can't get the rec letters, college might wave them for you.

Good point. I stand totally corrected re all transfer apps requiring rec letters. There are schools which don't. A lot do, but some don't.

Being a mod ;), I can still edit my post #7.. so I will do that lest someone think I knew what the heck I was talking about.
