2.3 GPA...Chances?

HI,
I got a 2.3GPA freshmen year. I am now a Sophmore. I talked to my guideance consuleor and she said that if 10th and 11th, I pulled a 3.0 or a 3.5 I'd be alright.

My college choices are:
College of Charleston
Winthrop
Clemson
USC-Columbia

What do I need to do to get into a good college??? Am I okay?

you'll be fine. I had a 2.14 my freshman year of high school and i'm now in college. just get better grades each year.

Woah, that helped me a ton!!! Ah thanks.
WHat do they do, add up your freshmen, sophmore, and junior gpa...and then divide by 3? Where do you go?

That is pretty much how you calculate cumulative gpa for the most part. Don't forget that colleges look at the first semester of your senior year as well. I go to Goucher College in Baltimore, MD.

Not to anger anyone else or burst their bubbles, but you are the type of person who should be in this forum getting advice because you want to do well in school and go to college but have hit a bump in the road. I don't understand the 3.7+ gpa students on this board who constantly ask about the ivies and the like. They very well know where they stand on the academic ladder and don't need to be here.

If you have anymore questions, I'd be more than happy to help since I have been in your situation before.

i thought u wanted to go to yale from your user name. where is it on your list of college choices?

UC's don't count your freshman year.

College of Charleston- Accepted
Winthrop- Accepted
Clemson- Accepted
USC-Columbia- Accepted!

Stanford (and maybe Princeton ?) dont counr frshman year either.

Princeton doesn't, but Stanford does. i had a low gpa freshman year myself, but i resurrected my grades the following years, and ive managed to get into the top 10%. just work hard, and colleges like it if your grades rise sophomore and junior year. DEFINITELY consider California schools.

I'm in SC though. I really wanted to stay in state.

this is great, cause i got a 2.75 gpa 2x on my freshman year... we all make mistakes :P

bumppp....okay too short....bump

Most schools, even if they "count" freshman year, don't weigh it heavily. I had a 3.3 freshman year, then a 3.7 sophomore year and hopefully a 3.9-4.0 this year and they can clearly see an improvement in my grades. As long as your GPA doesn't go DOWN, I think you'll be alright.

You'll be fine, trust me. I had a 2.7 freshman year... I got a 3.6 sophomore year... Then I got a 3.9 junior year. I'm a senior now, and my overall gpa is 3.47, which is plenty to get me into the colleges you listed. I'm considering Winthrop and CofC myself, actually, as I live in West Columbia (I go to Airport, woohoo!). I'm told I can even get into Furman... So believe me you don't have anything to worry about. ;)
