It has now taken me 3 calendar years to completely finish 2 years towards a BSME.
Currently I have to retake C programming with a grade "F," and I place some fault on the school (WSU-Vancouver) since the class was listed as a 2 credit class which, 1 year later, was removed from our program and re-listed as a 4 credit class for CS (same exact stuff).

I am seeking advice on how to approach the next 2-3 years. I have no internship or extracurricular duties. BTW I never had the background for engineering when I first started, but I was persistent. I love solidworks though.

Is there room to turn everything around, so I can at least have a job when I graduate? I never had any guidance considering I am the first in my family to attend a university. I am 21 y/o now btw.

If funding college is not a problem for you, you should concentrate on studies more. Go to office hours If professors and tutorials. Try to improve your gpa in coming years. Its up to you how much hard work will you do.

If you find yourself struggling and have exhausted your resources (office hours, tutors, peer groups, etc,.) perhaps consider taking a reduced course load. Although this will extend your college time and costs, it might work better in the long run.

I see that you like SolidWorks, which is a plus! Once you get past all the nitty-grittyness of your prerequisites, try focusing on the SW aspects. At my school, we can focus in design, so perhaps see if you can, too. You could try some advanced modeling classes, finite element analysis, or what-not. Once you take passion in something, you can probably do much better.

Do not give up. Engineering ain’t an easy thing, but you are almost there. If you keep working hard, you can easily up that GPA. A 3.0 is a good GPA, so you are NOT screwed over at all. You have 2 years left, and can up it.

Also, to get work experience you can always try to find volunteering experience, too. As you move up in the years, experience starts becoming as important as GPA.
