Hi guys! Currently in my first semester of sophomore year! I was wondering if it was possible to get into med school with a D and 3 C’s on a transcript. At a 2.8 GPA my third semester. I would be retaking the class I received a D in as it was my first ever 200 level bio class due to AP credit. The 3 c’s was in chemistry due to some personal reasons. Since I am only a sophomore and have 2 years and a semester left to do, would it still be possible for me to get into med school with those grades on my transcript? Thanks!
You need to be seriously considering other career options.
Also, you should try to get your grades up. I understand that premed classes are tough.
Possible but unlikely. Start planning for 1 or more gap years now. Make sure you have a viable Plan B.
You need to ace every class you take from now forward. Every B pushes your med school dream farther away.
If you can get your GPA into the 3.5+ range and your sGPA into the 3.4-3.5 range, you may have a chance for osteopathic schools. if you simply must have an MD, then you’re going to need a SMP or grade enhancing post-bacc.
Well, if you get all A or A+ grades for the next 5 semesters of similar credit loads, your GPA will be about 3.55, which is still marginal for medical school admission.
Mathematically impossible for you to get a 3.7+ for MD, extremely unlikely for DO. Right now you’re looking at a 3.2-3.5 GPA (best case scenario).
Cut your losses and look into other Health related careers - Nursing, PA MIGHT be a possibility if you have a work/volunteer hours and bring your grades up.
Or look into another career entirely.
