2.8 gpa mathematics CC Transfer....?

I am currently enrolled at a CC and I want to transfer to a 4 year institution for fall 2011 as a Junior. I want to major in pure math, but I'm not sure if I should declare a major with my low GPA. I live in central Illinois and but I'm not tied down to this area, and I'm willing to move anywhere in the country if it's necessary. I was mainly wondering what's the best school I have a shot at, considering the situation I'm in. I was looking at UIUC (I don't officially have the foreign language), UIC, Purdue, Michigan State, Ohio State, Mass Amherst, Case Western, U Washington, and Arizona. If these are unrealistic I'm also open to any suggestions.

More info about me:
Cons:
I graduated at the bottom of my high school class
*Don't know what my ACT is as I threw it away when it came in the mail.
*I have a 2.8 GPA which I accumulated over the course of 3 years (and I've also signed up and withdrawn from a lot of classes). It took me three years because I started at the algebra I level when I first came to CC right out of high school.
**Pros:
*
*Work 20 hours a week as a student worker at my CC.
*Vice president of math club
*Economics and Sociology professors have approached me and told me that they can write me letters of recommendation if I need them (though both are unrelated to my major).
* I'm fluent in 2 languages, but I can't prove it as I only use one language to speak to my parents at home (Polish).

Thanks in advance for any feedback positive or negative.

You can probably get your ACT scores online. You can also retake the ACT.

Is financial aid a concern? If it is U Mich is like 50k a year for upper division classes.

With a 2.8 you are just below the threshold of a 3.0.

Should I retake my ACT? I’m going to be getting my AS this spring so I was hoping I wouldn’t have to submit that anywhere.

I don’t know about the cost, but I don’t think I’ve got a shot at U Mich AA. It’s a really good school though. If my gpa were higher and by some streak of luck I got in, I’d try to do everything I could to be able to pay.

Thanks for the feedback btw

Anyone else? :(

ACT score is immaterial for a transfer student. They won’t ask for it.
The big issue is that your GPA is below a 3.0. You’ll have no chance at UIUC and almost none at UIC. At UIC, you can satisfy the foreign language requirement with your Polish knowledge.

I would say you should give MSU, case western, and Amherst a shot

No chance at Purdue? I’m going to start sending applications out this weekend, so I’ll start with Amherst as their out of state tuition isn’t too bad. Are the odds against me at all of these schools? I know minimum requirements can be misleading.

Minnesota’s OOS tuition is around $16,000 a year. Not too bad. Give it a look.

Originally Minnesota was one of my top choices because of rank, inexpensive oos, and they admit some sub-3 gpa transfers every year (and from what I’ve been told pure math isn’t a extremely competitive undergrad major). I do know that they have a foreign language requirement like UIUC does, and I don’t know if I’m eligible for admission because of that.
