Hi everyone. I’m brand new to College Confidential so please inform me of any formatting I should use. My main question is how much can I possibly raise my (weighted) GPA this semester? I’m taking 42.5 credits this semester, and so far haver 100’s in all my classes, and I don’t plan on missing any assignments. (Low GPA mainly because of absences, on my part for not making up work) Grade 9 (Weighted) GPA - 2.8833, 10th - 2.7667 - 11th (First semester) 2.9. I don’t plan on going to an Ivy League School, but between this semester and senior year, how much can I possibly raise it? I take 2 AP courses, if that helps. Appreciate any responses in advance.
You should focus your attention on standardized tests and if you score highly you will show yourself as an intelligent person who slacked off a bit. This will help you get into the best college. Your gpa will move a small amount, noticeable, but a little late for this kind of change. Best case scenario it goes above a 3.0.
You should really try your hardest to get your highest GPA yet. I was in your position. I got a 3.1 my sophomore year, and I ended my first semester senior year with a 3.84 unweighted with lots of commitment and hard work. It’s possible. Make good connections with your teachers, work hard/stay organized, and definitely study hard for your standardized tests so you can prove that you’re a smart student. Don’t get discouraged if this takes a while - my first ACT I scored a 24 and my last I scored a 32. You just have to be willing to put in the work to improve yourself and your scores.
It should be a simple math problem. If you have 5 semesters of a 2.85 GPA and 1 semester of a 4.00 GPA (or whatever is the maximum possible if considering weighted GPA), can you calculate your GPA over those 6 semesters?
If you took different amounts of courses/credits over the semesters, you may have to do semester by semester or course by course calculation if you want to get better than the rough estimate that the above would give.
If push get a 4.0 this term it’ll mean you get a 3.0. Many public universities will stop at this. Add one more semester of A 's and you could get 3.1-3.15.
So, try to maintain that GPA and focus on testing. Look in the ‘test’ forum for the xiggi and silverturtle method.
A 3.0 and a strong score will help you get into lots of universities.
Make a spreadsheet of your grades and calculate your projected GPA.
In addition to continuing to work hard in school for the rest of HS, focus on studying for SAT/ACT. Test scores/essays/activities/etc matter just as much as your GPA.
