Syracuse University

Virginia Tech
Rutgers ( In State)
Monmouth University (in State)
Champlain College
Rochester Institute of Technology

1600 out of 2400?

Which campus of Penn State? UP seems probably out of your reach.

Rowan should be on your list. Rutgers NB is gonna be tough. I live in NJ as well.

Monmouth is a private school by the way and it is not nearly as good as Rowan which costs 1/3rd.

Manhattan College is a great choice as is Scranton. St. Michael’s is very nice and near Champlain.

I would add St. Bonaventure and remove U Mass, Hopkins, Syracuse, Penn State and VT. Those aren’t going to happen.

Side note, Champlain College has virtually no endowment and whether it stays open is anyone’s guess.

Yes 1600 out of 2400

I wouldn’t apply to JHU, Penn State, VTech or UMass then. Have you thought about attending a CC first?

I agree 100% with what @BatesParent2019 is saying, OP. As a NJ kid who had a lower GPA but higher SAT than yours, I was rejected from both UMass and Syracuse. She’s also correct about RNB. Monmouth is private, so instate or OOS doesn’t matter. Rowan (3.5 stars) is far better than Monmouth (2.5 stars).

I do not want to go to a community college though for personal reasons

If you want to stay instate, you really should visit Rowan. It has received massive amounts of money and the campus is nicer than Rutgers. There is a new section called Rowan Boulevard which is like Campus Town at TCNJ. Very nice.

You don’t need to attend CC. Just look for schools for B students. St. Bonaventure is an excellent choice and you have a great basketball tradition to keep things fun. Like many Catholic colleges the student body is wide academically from your level on up. For example, about half have a GPA of 3.5 and higher. School with a lot of history and great alumni.

You listed others like Scranton and Manhattan College. St. Anselm and St. Michael’s are also worth looking into.

What can you afford to pay per year ? (Tuition, room and board, etc)

@Machovich that’s tougher to say probably form 20k to 40 k

Do you have any suggestions

Try the Supermatch tool (over on the left here on College Confidential). PUt in your scores and major and where you want to be in the country. it will have many suggestions for you.

Check out Duquesne University in Pittsburgh

That is a huge difference and suggests that you haven’t asked your parents. Please ask them for a definite yearly amount that they will pay.

That said, even a $40k budget will make many/most private schools unaffordable, and your stats won’t likely get merit.

What is your M+CR score?

Bluntly put you are entirely not in the ballpark for schools like Rochester and JHU, they are very competitive and both your GPA and test scores are not within their required ranges. I would concentrate on other schools.
