2 annoying questions, im sorry

1) comapred to other ivies, does URM status help more or less at Yale?

2) is being chosen for an interview (via phone call) a sign that you are just more available than other applicants, or a sign that you are more attractive than other applicants?

thanks

1) unknown: but applying to Yale is crushingly tough for everyone.
2) no to both scenarios. read the RD interview thread to understand how interviewees are "chosen" (basically, they aren't -- it's randomized)

1) depends on the individual applicant. 2) is totally random.

what is URM

Unrepresented Minority.

And honestly...I truly doubt it makes such a large different. Yale doesn't accept mediocrity. I'm sure it's definitely not a minus in your column but if you don't have the stats and essays to back it up, you won't be admitted regardless of your ethnicity.

Past the standard stats, Yale is holistic enough that I don't think it makes a HUGE difference. If you have the quirks, personality, and history then ethnicity is second. Of course it definitely warrants a second glance.
