I'm planning on applying to transfer to a top 20 school, but as of right now my gpa is hovering around 3.75 this is due to two bad grades a C and a B, they wouldnt affect my overall gpa as much but they are 4 credit class impacting my grade profoundly, will this greatly lower my chances at transferring? I did some calculations and by the time I transfer my gpa would be 3.85 after spring semester. Do I still have a shot at UPenn and school of that caliber?

BUMP… need some advice

Just do it. The only thing that can happen is either they say yes or no.

A 3.85 GPA is a great GPA. A couple of bad grades aren’t going to prevent you from transferring into a top school.

It depends on what classes too. If you’re transferring as a math major, and you got a B in Calc II and a C in Calc III, it’s going to look bad because you’re demonstrating decreasing proficiency in your major. If you’re transferring as a math major and you got a B and a C in a couple of humanities/social science courses, it isn’t going to have as great of an impact because you’re showing continued academic excellence in your major.

Transferring into UPenn with a 3.85 is very doable, but it’s important to realize that transferring into a top school is a hit or miss thing even for 4.0 students. Schools like Penn want to see more than just academic performance. They want to see involvement with activities outside of academics. They want to see demonstrated involvement in aspects of your education that go above and beyond the minimum requirements.
