2 bed dorm on Chestertown Hall - Still possible??

I just paid the $400 fee, and I am a College Park scholar assigned to Chestertown Hall. However I have 2 questions:

1) How sure it is that I will be assigned to Chestertown Hall?

2) How do I make sure I only have 1 roommate, and not 2 or 3?

Thanks!

What program are you in? That would determine the highest likelihood of being in Chestertown. I’m pretty sure STS lives there, and I’m not sure who else.

Have you already submitted your housing request/confirmation?

I am in STS, so Chestertown is supposed to be the assigned Hall. I just submitted the request/confirmation this evening.

That is why I am worried about getting in a triple or quad, that I want to avoid at all cost, and only have 1 roommate.

I too am in STS and supposed to be living in Chestertown. I also hope I’ll only have one roommate!!! I’m thinking I’ll email them right now. Even though it’s late, I’ll let you know if I get anything back tomorrow.

Thanks tdude51. I just got a call this morning from a housing manager at UMD, who basically explained that it is a first come first serve basis, and at this stage she cannot guarantee anything. So, we are crossing our fingers.

If anyone has any idea to influence the placement, I would really appreciate it!!

Didn’t ask about getting into a double, but I did find this out about getting put in Chestertown.

So we should be able to get a room in the hall without any problems, but who knows if it will be a double/triple/quad.

Incoming freshman are basically randomly assigned to their room. If you are in a Scholars group housed in Chestertown then you should definitely get a room in Chestertown.

Your roommate will be assigned based on the preference questions you filled out about your smoking habits, sleep schedule, study habits, etc. Beyond that it is random. Once you arrive, you have to stay about 2 weeks. Then you can request a room reassignment if you loathe your roomie. If it is granted, it will also be essentially random but you can put in some preferences.

If you meet someone in your building and want to trade rooms with them, this request is usually granted. All roommates in all rooms involved must agree to the change. You generally cannot move to another building this way, you must stay within your Scholars unit. (Don’t trade rooms illegally, it’s a mess later.)

The good news about Chestertown is that its so small that there are very few triples and quads. There are only a few rooms in the entire building that are large enough to use as triples and half of them should be female rooms (I’m assuming you’re a dude but the same applies vice versa). I’m more familiar with Bel Air but I believe the buildings are identical. The second floor corner room (2119) is a triple and the corresponding rooms on 3 and 4 could be turned into triples. These rooms can be turned into quads but they will only do that if there is a huge freshman class or if you request it.

You can look at the floor plan of the building here: [Chestertown Floor 0](http://www.resnet.umd.edu/residence_halls/cambridge/chestertown/floor_plans/Floorplan.asp)

If you do get a triple or quad, it probably won’t be a problem. The rooms are significantly bigger and usually have walk-in closets.

I hope this is helpful.
