I got a D in Ap Physics and Ap Calculus for first semester. I applied to UCs, Harvey Mudd, Purdue, Carnegie, Case, Rennselaer, MIT, GA Tech, and VA Tech. What should I do? Wait untill admissions? or send them letters now?

send them letters now

what do you mean, send them letter?

to let them know you got two D's?

can you talk to your teachers about it....?
Yes, send them letters.

MIT with D's in math and science?

the teachers won't help and neither do the guidance counselors. How should the letter be formatted?

I have this issue i think to I have to talk to my ap biology teacher because i think he forget to add something to my grade. AHHHHHHHH my life sucks!

At least your problem could be fixed if he forgot something. Your life sucks because you have to gasp talk to a teacher? ;)

I second that, MIT with a math and science D?

Hopefully things turn out ok because I really want to go to BU or NYU

assuming you are in CA. You need to talk to your GC. For the UCs it is my understanding that a D in a required a-g course will disqualify you for admission to any UC. You may have to look into retaking those classes. Again, this is what I have heard..check immediately with your GC.

I got a D in classes that are not required and that I have no interest in really I want to be a journalism major I have no interest in the sciences.

then why were you taking AP?

Because my counselor told me that I should in order to be competitive and stuff. But oh well I have a tutor now so I should do well this 2nd semester I sent a letter to my colleges telling them this and how i did not slack off. Also how i would be willing to send my 3rd quarter grades to show my improvement so hopefully I should be ok. :/

Why are you applying to all those tech schools if you want to go into journalism?

And GCs do not always know best...

make sure your letter is not "whiney", just honest and straightforward.

Oh I am not the other person is I am applying to a lot of the UC's and BU, NYU, Tufts, and USC.

Send a letter to college explaining why you got these two Ds and get your grade up. I hope you have some good excuses or else these two Ds could break your application in half depending on the competitiveness of the school you applied to.

Well the reason why i did bad in the class is just because for the simple reason i just could not grasp the subject I even got a tutor and studied all the time and it just did not work but I got a different tutor now and I am confident that I will pass both of them that I will send my quarter grades to the colleges.

To the OP, I think you had better sit down fast with your GC and come up with a back up strategy for safety schools that you can still apply to, because those 2 D's will kill your chances at most of the schools on your list. The only purpose of sending a letter would be to explain extreme extenuating circumstances for the D's- such as you being very ill, or some trauma such as a parent dying, etc,etc...
