2 FAFSA Questions

My parents are divorced and i have little to no contact with my father so do i have to put any information from him on my fafsa. Since he's not financialy supporting me in any way.

And second how do i fill out the FAFSA without having my tax return already done.

For FAFSA, if parents are divorced, you include only the info on your custodial parent (your Mom in this case). Leave Dad's info off entirely. Unless Mom has remarried, and then you include her new husband's info.

Check the deadline for completing FAFSA-- don't miss the deadline waiting to get your (or your Mom's) tax info. You estimate-- check the box on FAFSA that indicates that you haven't yet filed your taxes (and that Mom hasn't yet filed hers), and estimate based on your (or her) '06 income info (adjust if necessary) and current asset info. You'll get an EFC based on the estimates, and estimated Financial Aid packages from your colleges based on that number.

Then, when you have the taxes done, go back into FAFSA online and insert the actual income/tax numbers, and change the box from "will file" to "Have fled". You'll get a new EFC, which will go to your college(s) for an adjusted finaid package.

thanks for the help

Another question for you: Should I file the FAFSA now or wait till I have more definite tax numbers? Doubt if we'll get aid from FAFSA and though he's been accepted, when do I really have to have the FAFSA in to the college?
Thanks for any info!

Meet your school's deadline for completing the FAFSA-- don't wait on definite tax numbers. Estimate based on previous year's tax info, then correct it later. That's normal. Your school's website will have the deadline.

I'd suggest you file, even though you think you won't be eligible for aid.

Thanks, SBlake!
