2 important questions

1) So I got accepted into Berkeley :) But as of right now my parents aren't considering it because I got into the College of Letters and Sciences for Computer Science (BA). They don't find a BA degree in Computer Science at Berkeley as or more beneficial than a Computer Science and Engineering degree (BS) at USC,UCSD, or UCI. First can you give me a clear definition of the difference between Computer Science (BA) and Computer Engineering (BS) other than the obvious (list of classes, course focus/rigor). I visited Berkeley and honestly I was trilled that I was accepted but I need a good reason for my parents to even consider this a choice. I know some of you may have biased opinions but tell me really who got the better jobs and do employers laugh at a BA degree with all honesty. List any Pros or Cons...

2) I know one of the requirements is that we have to finish the classes listed on our application. It just so happens that I put down varsity track and field for 9-12, but I realized that track would interfere with my Calc BC class second semester (aka track season) and therefore could not take it. I chose the obvious choice of staying in BC rather than joining track. How badly will this hurt me. I know I have to tell the school so how would I go about doing this... is there a specific e-mail you guys know of...

ANY HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED :)

Currently, employers pay L&S CS graduates with their Bachelor of Arts degrees well:
https://career.berkeley.edu/Major/CompSci.stm

EECS graduates with their Bachelor of Science degrees are paid about the same:
https://career.berkeley.edu/Major/EECS.stm

I don’t see why your parents are so concerned about the distinction between L&S CS versus EECS or CS degree programs in other schools’ engineering divisions, if you want to focus on CS. L&S CS majors choose from the same CS courses that EECS major choose from. EECS majors have some additional lower division physics and EE courses required, and can choose to concentrate upper division courses in EE without taking any upper division CS courses.

Contact the admissions office to see if the change in your schedule regarding the varsity track and field course would be acceptable before you decide to register.
