2 Minutes Into the Common Application and I am FREAKING out!

Oh. my. god.

Everyone always says: "The college application process is soooo stressful"

Yet, I suppose I always subconciously scoffed at this since I thought: "Huh. What can be so bad? Just fill out the app. Relax"

But oh no's. No no no! My prediction is not true at all!!!

2 Minutes. TWO minutes into my Common Application and I was grabbing my head in anxiousness and shifting around in my chair in nervousness at EVERY question:

Common App: Name?
Me: OMG!!!!! grabs head and rocks back and forth in chair

Literally! I freaked out at EVERY question! I tried music to relax but nothing! Ahh!!!

And now, all these insecuries surfaced- insecurities I supposedly don't have because I am sure I will be a wonderful addition to either of my two choices- Penn or MIT.

But now, now when it's all numbers and figures... well, I was reduced to just that: numbers and figures. My whole persona is just gone..

Gosh this sucks.

Haha, calm down.
Calm down.

We'll all get through this. Freaking out 09, here we come!

XD I laughed so hard at you freaking out over "Name." Not to be amused by your misery or anything... >___>

Personally, I did all of the Common App except my essays, and I feel really relieved and de-stressed 'cause now I'm, like, practically done! Think of it that way: the more stuff you fill out, the closer you are to being done and, well, having to worry about the next step, whether or not you get accepted... but... not having to worry about the application process anymore!!! Most of the stuff you have to fill out is pretty easy, too. You've already done everything; now you just have to click and type stuff! :]

Don't worry! Your personality will shine through; numbers and figures are just a small part of it (and I'm sure yours are pretty great anyways.)

^^ Same here. I still have to do the essays. Not looking forward to that =[.

Yeah, me either. I like writing, but I don't like having to represent myself within the confines of a page or so...

Wow this thread scared me.
I'm going to start on it like this week or next week.

O_O

Hey!!

GO SIGN THE COMMON APP FORUM PETITION in Community & Forum Issues so that we can actually have Common App questions answered rather than being merged into a gigantic thread.

i know how you feel.

just focus on filling out the easy stuff (name, etc)...pretend you're entering a contest

Haha oh man, I'm the same as you once were.... I'm still kinda unsure what the fuss about applications are, but I know for a fact that once I hit senior year I'm going to be freaking out as well!

Think of it this way: at least you're getting it out of the way right now, right? Rather you freak out now and have the rest of the summer to work on them, then stress over them the week before applications are due!

I'm only worried about the essays. Everything else is easy.

I just told myself that the longer I stretch this out, the worse I'm going to feel. So I filled out everything! Even have the essay done, (but I just want a teacher to proofread it) Now I just have to wait until all the paper apps come out for 8 out of my 11 colleges.

Just do the common app like you're taking a cough drop. The process sucks, but within minutes you'll be feeling better.

LOL sorry but i thought it was funny how u freaked out over the name thing
its ok. just take a deep breath, relax, and fill it out like u would any other regular form
freak out once u get to the essays section lol
but in all seriousness i wiish u the best of luck in the college app process

are u ok? why the heck would you freak out???

no point...

Ha, I know exactly how you feel. I was like "whatever, it's just filling out a few things" until the common app actually came out...and then I completely freaked out. I haven't even started the essay yet...

What Do You Need On The Common App? Exactly What Does It Specify? Please Tell Me, You're Stressing Me Out.

****! 09's need to do these in the summer? Anyone have a link so I might be able to start?

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/27/world/asia/27seoul.html?pagewanted=2&_r=1&ei=5087&em&en=6b2231730731aba4&ex=1209441600

It's more psychologically intimidating than anything else. Most of the questions really aren't that hard (I mean, Name. Birthdate. Address. Not that bad), but you can't help but think as your filling it out that this form could decide your future. It's anxiety about college admissions brought on by a piece of paper or a website. And then you start thinking about the essays, which is even more stressful...and in my case, self-reporting my test scores was stressful because I feel like they're really low.

Filling out the common app forces you to think about the process, and thinking about the process brings on fears of being inadequate and ultimately, the fear of being rejected.

The common app can be found at www.commonapp.org

self-reporting my test scores was stressful because I feel like they're really low.

well I'm studying like crazy...

JUST TELL ME WHAT PARTS ARE ON IT????PLEASE i can't download it....I'm at a library.
