Well, I wanted to know if there are people who failed AP Tests but still got into the schools of their choice. I made 3 5's and a 2 on my AP's and I'm seriously freaking out. I'll probably end up just sending the entire official report to all the schools that I apply to, just to be honest.

But does this 2 hurt my chances at top tier schools? Did anybody do this poorly on an AP test and still get into ivy caliber schools?

You self-report your scores on your application. So if you got a 2, just leave it off. You will need to send your official score report eventually in order to get credit, so schools will see scores for all of your exams, but you don't need to do that until after you're accepted, so it doesn't matter.

true, but schools will assume you didn't pass because they will see that you took the class but don't have a score for the test, which you would have written had you passed.

If you report everything but the 2, they'll have a vague idea that you didn't do well, but at the end of the day they won't know exactly what happened. If anything, you may get a bit of leeway because you've already got three 5s and they don't know for sure how badly you did on the other exam, or even whether you took it at all.

If you report the 2, they'll know for sure that you took the test and they'll know exactly how you did. If you did well in that class it will make your grade look less impressive as well.

Better to leave them uncertain than to put a definite negative mark on your application when you don't have to.

i have to disagree. the only two reasons, in their mind, why you didn't report it would be that you got a 2 or a 1. The two is obviously better, so it's best to self-report it and clear up any misunderstandings. you'll be fine; my brother got into berkeley with a few fours and threes and a two, which he self-reported. if anything, they'll value your honesty.

i wouldn't report the 2.. just cuz you took the class doesn't mean you took the AP test, so they wont know that you took the exam at all, and there's nothing on the app that says you HAVE to report all of your scores, it's optional.

I got a 2 and reported it, but if I could do it over again, I wouldn't.

However, if you don't report it, they might think that you didn't even attempt it. I've been told that it's better to try and possibly fail then to not take it at all, but ::shrug::

but ppl do not HAVE to take AP tests, they are not obligated (I know people who took AP class but did not take the exams)

Don't report the 2. For all the schools know, you took the class but didn't take the exam or took the test and didn't score so well -- which is fine.

I took six AP classes my senior year -- applied to and was accepted at the top Ivies. Got extremely lazy and complacent and didn't push myself whatsoever with the exams (although I got all As). Looking back, it was STOOOOPID. The college I matriculated didn't blink.

alexgs08, I have pretty much the exact same problem. I received two 5s and one 2 (Spanish). I am planning on not reporting my 2 and reporting the other ones.

Yeah, I guess I won't report the 2, especially since my average in that class was an A+. Maybe I can clear it up in the application. I mean, that day was the worst day of my life. A friend of mine who received similar grades got a 5 and another who recived grades in the low A's most of the year ( except for towards the end) got a 3. I basically choked that day.

My kid got a 2 on one of her APs and 3's and 4's on the rest. She didn't report the 2. She got into Chicago and Swat...among others. Don't fret...you did well. Good luck.
