What's Dual Enrollment?

Anyone know any colleges in CA (doesn't have to be community college) that offers classes to high school students during August?

1) Isn’t that like PSEO (Post secondary enrollment option) You can take class at your local CC or some college while you’re still in High School…but sometimes might have to come back to ur HS to take certain classes.

2) No idea.

1.) Yeah, Dual Enrollment is taking college classes at a local community or state college, and having them count for college and high school. Like I’m graduating high school with an AA degree, which may or may not matter, depending on what school I go to (most consider it the same level as AP, but some don’t transfer all credits)
2.) I think you’d have to arrange it through your high school, and I don’t think college classes are offered for just the month of August. Talk to a guidance counselor and find out.

Well I know there are some Dual Enrollment classes at my school, but it’s taught at my school. I know that DE only works for your state, though… So say you take a DE course, that means if will only work if you stay at a college in your state. That’s what my teachers told me. I’m not sure.

Not quite. I’m in Florida, where dual enrollment is encouraged, and while FSU and UF will take up to 60 credits, some out of state schools take credits, too. Like NYU will take 32 credits worth (the equivalent of one year there). Pretty good for an out of state private school.

If you’re talking anywhere in CA, I took two 3-cr English classes at Wilkinson of Chapman Univ last year, and they started in August. I don’t think any schools have classes just for that month though. As for UCs, I don’t think they have DE. The program at Chapman actually covered tuition and books for some programs, but not for mine. I bet every community college/CSU in the state has it though. Oh and if your college is stupid like mine, they won’t accept the transfer credits.

Where I am, the high school pays for tuition, books, etc. I suppose it’s the type of program you’re in. Again, the OP should contact the high school to see policies.
