2 references or 3?

Online app says 4A = for any teacher and 4B must be science if PLME

That totals to 2 references only.

The brown site however says 4A 4B AND 4C is needed for PLME. That totals to 3 references if I’m correct. There also isn’t a 4C form.

Someone clarify please?

Give 4A to two teachers, that's all you need if going for a BA degree.
In addition, give 4B to one science or math teacher if you are applying to PLME or a BS degree.

Okay, so if I'm applying for a BS and PLME, I need to have 2 4A's, and 1 4B. Giving me 3 letters?

How come the online app says "write in the 2 teacher's names that will do your references" ? Theres only space for 2 teachers.

I see what you're talking about now, and I agree, they say (or imply) three different things depending on whether you're looking at: 1) the actual application; 2) information about applying on their website; or 3) their PDF about how to fill out the application:
<a href="http://www.brown.edu/Administration/Admission/appforms/secure/AppInst.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www.brown.edu/Administration/Admission/appforms/secure/AppInst.pdf</a>
The later is the one I referred to for my earlier answer. The website is obviously wrong since (as you noted) there's no form 4C. So the question is, to you need 2 teachers plus a science/math or just 1 teacher plus a science/math? I think it's going to take a phone call or e-mail to the admissions office to resolve. My D needs to know too as she possibly plans on doing a BS.

You should check with the admissions office just to be sure (and come back and let us know!) but I think two rec's are required of all applicants - 2 teachers of any core subject for a BA; one math or science teacher and one teacher of any other core subject for a BS. That's the impression I got.

you could just send 3 and worst thing that happens is that there is an extra person to vouch for how great you are.

From the application:

Note: Form 4B should be completed by a teacher of Science or Mathematics if you have indicated a preference for the ScB degree or if you are applying to the Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME).

noone has answered the question yet.. could someone phone in and ask plz? I can't as I live on the west coast and schools starting..

blitz, I called Brown admissions this morning, they only require 2 teacher recommendations total. However, if you are applying for PLME or a BS degree, one of the two has to be from a math/science teacher. Yeah :)

thank you entomom!
(not that I'm applying PLME)

thanks mom =)

You're welcome kids! Good luck everybody!!!
