2 Writing Q's

I was lazy to find the writing questions thread so i'm just making one. These are the only two wrong questions i had on the practice writing SAT test so i'm elated about that but that also makes me equally bitter, for i was only two questions away from an 800.

Paule Marshall, whose Barbadian background (has influenced) her writing, (describes) many details of life in the Caribbean Islands (vividly) in her novels and short stories.

I picked B(has influenced) because it seemed wrong but the answer is E(No error). Can someone thoroughly explain why it's right.

In (those cities) (in which) public transportation is adequate, fewer traffic problems occur and pedestrians (are rarely) (involved in) accidents.

I again picked B(in which), thinking that it should be "where" because it's talking about a place. Can someone explain why E is the answer also the rule on where vs in which thoroughly.

Thanks in advance.

The first one is no error because the whole sentence is in present tense. Because describes is present tense, her Barbadian background still influences her writing. Therefore, has included, which is in the PRESENT perfect tense, is correct.
For the second one, you have to look at what “which” represents. In this case it’s “those cities”. So it’s basicaly saying public transportation is adequate in those cities.

Also, if anyone would be kind enough to grade my essay which was posted a bit earlier.
