Let's say I drop two classes this semester and receive two W's. I'm applying m this year to UCSD, UCSB, UCI, UCR...and was wondering will these two recent W's affect my chances of admission to my first choice: UCSD? Btw my major isnt impacted if that makes any difference.

U will have no problem with UCR, unless u r business or argri major or other impacted major.
you will have a little bit problem with UCSB, quite lot problems with UCI and a lot of problems with UCSD.

How come? Even if i TAG into UCSB I have a problem? Why? And UCSD… what if I have a 3.3 and my major isn’t impacted.

You will have a problem if you’re not going to report, and explain why why and why. 1 W seen fine, but 2 ws, that is a problem. Clearly common sense, if you drop a class or 2, of course u r going to create some problems. If you are not going to drop any classes, of course ur fine.

Woah. Thought UCSD didn’t care about W’s.

lol for fall, they will care. Fall grades are very important. Fall is where ur admission will be determine, so don’t mess it up lol.

Yes master!!!

Eggyham,

I talked to a UCLA counselor and they told me not to worry about the W’s. I have 10W’s since I had to withdraw froma complete semester. You’re fine with the two W’s. Just make sure they aren’t major prep classes needed for admission for your major. Especially at UCB or UCLA…they are very strict about completing all major courses. IGETCI is also HIGHLY recommended. Good Luck. BTW, what major are you apply as?

Thank you so much My major is Sociology and I really want to get into UCSD. The thing is…the two W’s that I MIGHT get are in this semester…before i apply. I have a 3.3…which is good for a non impacted major and I have every Prereq completed…do you think I’ll be at a disadvantage? I didn’t even need these two courses.

hey…Eggyham! Im a sociology major too! Yeah, 3.3 is a lil low for sociology especially for UCLA and Berkeley. I am like borderline for sociology and I have a 3.7 I think you should be good for UCSD and Irvine. I wouldn’t apply to UCLA unless you can pull up to at least a 3.5 by end of Fall 2011. otherwise, its just a waste of $$$…Might as well go to U$C :(

Oh man! Nooo way am I applying there haha. I just never really was into UCLA or Berk. they’re both awesome schools but I’m set on UCSD. Hm I had a friend with a 3.78 who got rejected from UCLA but was accepted through appeal! And since you’re in honors, I think you have a great chance honestly. I’ve seen a ton of people get in because they’re in honors/scholars. So…UCSD TAG is 3.5…and I don’t have that but honestly you think I have a pretty good shot at UCSD? it’s not impacted whatsoever. :)

What major was your friend who had a 3.78? I might have to appeal and I was in honors program but i dropped out.

Yea, ur good to go for UCSD. Just to be a lil safer…if u can get it up to a 3.5 GPA tht would be awesome.

He was a Sociology major also! oh Hm he was devastated that he got rejected but he got in through appeal! Have an AMAZZZZING personal statement and a ton of ECs because I heard UCs are doing holistic applications. I wouldn’t worry if I were you and I need to stop worrying since UCSD won’t be flooded with that many tag applicants this year which leaves space for lower GPA students like myself :)
