2 year music program in NYC area???

Hi,
I am considering going to Nassau CC to study Associates degree in Music. I want to stick to the NYC area. does anyone has any idea about how good this program is?

Do you know any better schools in NYC that offer 2 year diploma degree (from what I've checked, most of them only have 4 year degree)?

any help will be greatly appriciated.

Music encompasses a broad spectrum. What specific focus are you looking for?

The four year program is the norm, but certain fields like music technology can be had in two year programs.

Look into Brooklyn College Conservatory, part of the CUNY system Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music

I am interested in performance music studies, voice.

Do you happen to know anything about nassau?

Thank you very much for your help.

Unfortuantly they only have 4 years BA.

I'll keep looking.

thanks again.

From a performance standpoint, you will be hard pressed to find any 2 year program. I understand that there are some California cc based programs that are designed you to fulfill some music requirements and then transfer into CA public four year programs with a good portion of the music credits accepted and intact. I can't specify the particular schools or programs, as I have no specific knowledge.

The truth of the matter is that even within the top four year music programs a good number of music credits from one institution are not always accepted/transferable between schools. This is particularly true in theory courses.

Without knowing your prior level of music training and experience, it's difficult to counsel you. Most bent on a performance type degree or career have had many years of private lessons, ensemble experience, intense summer immersion programs. If you can achieve or maintain this level of experience through private study and local/regional performance groups and take general ed requirements at a cc for a couple of years and then transfer to a solid four year music program, you could potentially be competitive.

Don't underestimate the incredible level of talent that you will be competing against.

If you are unfamiliar with the music admissions process, take a look at the great thread here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/258796-so-you-want-music-major-one-family-s-experience.html You might also want to repost your question in the music major forum. There may well be some familiar with what is available within the New York CC or CUNY system.

Good luck.

Much appreciated!
