2 year program - CAP21 or AMDA?

Hi everyone

I'm brazilian and I traveled to New York to audition for CAP21, AMDA and Circle in the Square (the 2-year MT program for all of them). I was accepted to CAP21 and AMDA and still waiting an answer from CITS.

I already read a lot in the forums but I was wondering if anyone has any more info on these programs. Opinions, comments, strengths, weaknesses of each one... anything that can help me decide which one to go, since I'll leave everything behind! :)

Which would you choose?

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks!

Congrats on your acceptances!!!

I can tell you what I know from my research but I’m warning you I might be a bit biased since I got accepted to Cap21 also. AMDA looks like a program that is strong but the school seems to have this bad reputation cause of the staffing problems so the experience there seems to vary from year to year and can be really positive or negative. Though Cap21 seems to be more reputed and have overall better training and happier results from Alums the only issue with them is that they don’t offer dorms or visas. So if you got accepted you’d have to figure out your own situation with immigration though they do give you a housing resource list to help you find a living situation. If you have more issues I could help out since I’m handling my own immigration issues being Canadian and all but I say go for the one where you see yourself being happier.

Hope this helps a bit!

I’m (tentatively) attending AMDA next fall, but I was also accepted at CITS and Cap21. At first I was very put off by some of the opinions on AMDA, but after visiting and watching some classes, I’m pretty sure that it’s a great place for me. I wasn’t all to crazy about Cap21 but I also really liked Circle in the Square, it seemed like a great place. Part of the reason I chose AMDA was because they offer housing, and I really wanted that experience.
In the end though, as TheatreG14 said, you need to compare them to what you want, and what kind of place you feel like you belong.
I’d love to know what you decide. :)

I received the acceptance letter from CITS today too. So there’s 3 options now :)

I really liked CAP21. The head of admissions and another teacher there complimented a lot after the audition and said they really want me to go there. I think that’s why I’m leaning towards CAP21.

AMDA has much more students in the program then CAP21 and CITS, doesn’t it? I think that might be a problem for me to get individual attention throughout the program.

Another point of concern from AMDA is that the students from the 4 year program and from the conservatory program do mix. That means a lot of university people having classes together with the 2-year people.

I’ve emailed a few people who attended to these schools to see what they think.

We can talk there maybe :)
