Hi guys! Would a 2 year business program (meaning that the major is chosen before the junior year) be better or a 4 year business program (meaning business focus from the start) be better? Perhaps a more broad program would be better since I am planning to do postgrad studies afterwards to concentrate on a profession anyways.
Many thanks!

Depends on the school. 2 data points - JMU’s 4 year business degree is well-regarded at least regionally and is arguably one of the top 3 departments in the university. UVA Commerce school is 2 years and is nationally-known. Difficult to compare on an absolute level because UVA is the state flagship and harder to get into, period.

Regardless of 2 or 4 year, don’t miss on chances to minor (or double major) or take electives in other subjects of interest. Being knowledgeable and well-rounded is an asset, and you will have 2-3 years to specialize in professional school.

I would say the school is more important than the way the curriculum is set up. I bet if you look at the entire 4 year program, 4 year business schools have a similar distribution of business/non-business when compared to a two year program.

@HereWeGo2 Thanks for the detailed information and I’ll make sure I do minor in something interesting!
@hkem123 That’s a good point the difference is probably not SO big just one is more binding than the other.
