2 Years of Language

Hey guys I have a few questions regarding my current foreign language situation. First off I only have 2 years of Spanish at the moment (i’m going to be going into my senior year) and I was wondering if some top universities would decline me because of this or it would put me at a disadvantage. Also, I am taking honors Spanish 3 this senior year but I don’t know if that will compensate since by the time I apply I will only have 2 years of Spanish on my transcript. I would like to go in as an engineering major and the reason why I lost a year of foreign language is because i wanted to double up on more math and science courses and my school offers engineering related courses as well which I found interesting and wanted to take. Just wanted to know if me only having 2 years of a foreign language will put me at a serious disadvantage.
Thanks!!

They consider what you’re currently taking as well. I think 3 years is not bad. I would go fo a fourth credit if possible. That’s what I’m doing. I’m starting junior year with my first language. I’m taking the second one next summer. Third and fourth during my senior year.

Alright thanks, and just wondering how do colleges see your senior year course load? Is it included in the transcript just with no grades along with it?

If the college recommends/requires 3+ years, yes, you would be at a disadvantage with 2 years (but you really have 3, so less of an issue). No, your application will not be immediately rejected as a result.

Yes, it will “compensate.” You have to list your senior year classes on your application, and your school will need to send a mid-year transcript. Few, if any, colleges will expect you to have completed all the prerequisites by the time you apply.

Colleges do see you senior course load and you first-semester grades or first quarter (depending on if you apply early or at regular decision). The class you are taking now counts so that would be 3 years and the ideal amount so you are fine.

Awesome, thanks guys for all of the helpful info!

Senior year courses are reported in your application. Admission offers will be conditional on completing them with high enough grades.
