200-level history courses?

Hello all. I’m in the middle of my trial registration but I’ve reached a stumbling block!

I know as a first-year I’m expected to take intro level (or 100-level) classes. However, at Smith it seems like there are no 100-level history courses. I’m interested in taking a colloquium (Stalin and Stalinism) but it’s under HST 240.

Do you think I would be allowed to register for this course or not?

Thanks for your help!

I cannot answer for sure, but I looked and since no pre-requisite is mentioned, I think you could register for the course. Good luck!

Too late for this student but for others in the future: my advice to first-years is to exercise extreme caution in taking 200-level classes the first semester. Many students have been straight-A or near enough students in high school and it comes as a shock when they find themselves getting C’s on their college papers. Doesn’t happen to everyone but not all high school preparation is equal even if the GPA’s are.
