200 More Acceptances, Yet Only 50 More Slots

Columbia apparently accepted 200 more applicants this year than last, yet the class size has increased by only 50 slots. As I understand it, only 30 or so applicants were admitted last year off the waitlist. Are they expecting their yield to decrease this year? Are they seeking to avoid going to the waitlist? Are they actually hoping to increase enrollment by more than 50? Is there a risk of overenrollment?

nope wrong look at the discrepancy in these figures:

148 were admitted off the waitlist last year. so now it makes sense that they took 200 extra.

Thanks, confidentialcoll. Now I won’t worry that my son will be homeless as a first-year at Columbia next year…
