Chance me for:
UC Berkeley EECS and L&S
UC LA/SD/Davis
Cornell
Harvey Mudd
Stanford

WOW. congrats for your 200 point increas (2030 -> 2230. thats a lot)
Anyways… match for UCB, UCLA. Safe/slight match for SD, Davis. Slight reach / match for Cornell & Harvey. Reach Stanford (nobody is a match for Stanford)

Hey! Your SAT scores are just like mine! Crazy! (800M, 690CR, 750W) So I’m not the only one with those skewed scores. I hate the critical reading section.
Ummm. I don’t know this chancing things, but I’ll take a stab at it (seriously, I’m clueless)
Stanford - Reach
UCLA/Berkeley - Reach
the rest are in
don’t know about harvey mudd - didn’t hear too much about it.

I took AP USH thinking that it would be like AP WH, boy was I so wrong. I took the SAT II USH before seeing the results for my AP test. If I could take it back, I would.

With my current scores so far, would my essays play a big part in the admissions process?

Good GPA, great scores, good leadership. The top UCs would be matches, but since you’re applying to a very competitive program, it makes things a bit harder.

Berkeley: slight reach - reach EECS, match L&S
UCLA: match
UCSD: safe match - safety
UCD: safety

You have a good shot at the rest. For Berkeley, it’ll depend more on your essays, as your ECs don’t show much passion/focus. Did you talk about your interest in your essays? If not, then it’s a reach. If so, then I’d say slight reach (50-50), though your stats in math/science put you in a good spot, so possibly a high match.

i say Cal is sort of a back-up for you, hahaha… i say you could go for a few more of the lower Ivys. and harvey-mudd, think of it as a lesser version of Caltech. just dont chew up ur essay, i think that was the factor that got my friend ousted from Cal and UCLA

@kyledavid80: I talked about how my father influenced me into computers and how I self-learned BASIC (an early programming language) as a result.

@Big_D: Thank you very much for your input.

Well, unfortunately, I don’t know your schools very well, but I’ll take a stab:

Stanford-reach; your stats look pretty much strong enough, but your ECs aren’t planet-crushing in their awesomeness, so Stanford won’t take you immediately. Def. a possibility though; I know someone who got in with a 1410 CR+M.

Berkley-Match
UCLA-Match
Harvey Mudd-Match
I’m assuming safety for the other UCs based on other postings about them.

Also, your essay topic sounds really cool to me.

@silverchris9: “Planet-crushing,” haha, that made me laugh. Thanks for your support. I really had a difficult time coming up with a good essay. I was planning on writing about my mother and her “troubles coming to America while avoiding the pirates and fighting hard to give her children a good life” story, but my counselor said the EXACT same thing and that destroyed any ideas in my mind.
