UCSB
U Washington
Cal Poly SLO

Regarding admission difficulty....U Florida should be moved up in your list. US News considers it more selective than GaTech, Wisconsin, Illinois, Texas. Along with USNews, Barron's now rates UF in its "Most Selective" list. FWIW.

collegeparent, I think your list is quite a bit off.

Collegeparent, selectivity rankings and academic rankings are not the same. This said, according to the USNWR, public schools are ranked as follows in terms of selectivity (the ranking also takes into consideration private universities):

13 University of California-Berkeley

18 University of California-Los Angeles and University of Michigan-Ann Arbor

21 College of William and Mary

26 University of Virginia

31 University of California-San Diego

32 University of California-Irvine

38 University of California-Davis and University of California-Santa Barbara

40 University of Florida

43 University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign

45 University of Wisconsin-Madison

47 Georgia Institute of Technology

49 University of Texas-Austin

speaking as a virginia native I can tell you that pragmatically UVA is harder to get into than William and Mary particularly when you consider both in and out of state admission rates

Alexandre, you forgot to add UNC

Anecdotal but from a parent of a kid at UVA who applied to Ann Arbor,,,,,and from what I've seen locally....UVA tougher to get into...at least for out of state.

How is Miami University (OH) so high? It seems like a nice college in all, when I visited. But are they highly ranked in anything?

Wahoo2007- Please enlighten us as to why UVa is harder to get into than W&M? If you are talking SAT's or overall acceptance rate, W&M is "tougher" to get into. I personally believe that these schools are virtually the same in their admissions standards despite US News rankings that list W&M as more selective. Yet, you seem to think UVa is more selective...why is that? Do you have any numbers to back your claims up?

I find it amusing that people, like you, who cite USNEWS rankings as a reason for a school such as UVa (ranking #23) being "better" than a school like W&M (ranked #31) conveniently forget the other rankings within the overall composite.

While I don't agree with USNEWS on its methodologies (for overall quality, peer assessment scores or selectivity) I find it amusing that some people selectively forget pieces of rankings in their biased analysis of colleges.

Interesting...

Uva is ranked #11 by AP and W&M is unranked. Big edge to Uva.

Is that the division I-A football poll? If that is the ranking you cite, it would help if you did your homework.

It is true that UVa is #11 in football according to the AP poll. But W&M (along with Colgate, Yale, Penn, James Madison, Lafayette, Lehigh, Cornell, Brown etc.) plays football in division I-AA, and is ranked in the teens (depending on which poll you follow).

Teens in IAA is like a bottom 30 IA team. Give me bigtime football--and basketball.

Can anyone compare W&M to UVA for in state strudents in terms of difficulty of acceptance?

Hey guys I go to UVA and I've found tons of kids in my hall that said they either got waitlisted or rejected from William & Mary. I also thought that UVA was "harder" to get into, but I now think its equally the same, because my best friend goes to William & Mary and says that he knows a bunch of people that didn't get into UVA. I actually got waitlisted from W&M with a 1440 and a 4.02 gpa, so I might even think that it might be harder since the percentage for W&M is only 33% compared to here which is 39%, but whatever, I love UVA and think W&M is also a great school.

UNC is probably one of the three most selective public schools for out-of-state applicants and maybe one of the top 10 or 12 most selective for in-staters.

(Yes, I know Carolina is all I post about these days. Write what you know :))
