Hi--it IS a very confusing process, but it's best to wait as long as possible, so if you know you are going to retake the test, wait to send the scores with that test. Also then your college list is usually firmed up and you aren't wasting extra $7 fees which they charge after the first 4 free. The colleges will also get ALL scores prior to that last test, but most of them will only look at the highest combined score for one sitting, or perhaps take a composite of the highest. Ask to be sure.

My daughter is a really terrible test-taker, but with good grades. So what we did was sign her up for a college course during summer before senior year. It counted toward her college GEs which was an added benefit, but our real objective was to show yes she CAN do college work which is what the SAT purports to predict. She got an A in the course, and I think having it on her transcript did help quell any concern in her college apps as to whether she could perform in college, as she was very successful in her acceptances despite her low SAT scores.

i send my best wishes to your daughter. as you might have read, I took the SATS on saturday. It wasn't that they were difficult, it was just the longest test EVER. really boring :( But, other than that it's not too bad. I feel your pain on everything that is going on at the end of the year. I feel like I don't have a free day until the end of school. I get out May 26th, so I'm counting down the days with you!

If anyone knows anything about unified stuff we could get done this summer maybe (?) post it on here.

Amy, I hear ya with how chockful the end of the school year is. Just think, you are almost done and will have a break! Try to enjoy any of the fun end of year events too. And just remember, some kids have a lot more to go. Our last day of school is June 15!

I'm so sorry aspiringactress1! Although, we started august 10th, which is pretty ridiculous in itself...so whatev. Does anyone know anymore dates for '06?

Summer is fast approaching - yeah! Can anyone give me advice on how many colleges (and which ones) that have been posted on these sites require a repertoire list? If so, how many do you list. I know Michigan does. My daghter has been taking classical since 3rd grade. Also, should the list be separated in different catagories (classical vs. M.T. etc.). I know my daughter would like to get as much done as possible this summer.

We have a mutual friend thru OCHSA (Wct) and she speaks very highly of your D. Regarding the repertoire list, I can only speak to what my D did for UM. She separated her Classical and MT repertoire and did not list everything she had studied or performed. I truly believe they are looking for REPRESENTATIVE repertoire, a list that will give them some idea of the kind of material the candidate has worked on, i.e., it's range, character type, difficulty, etc. It's another kind "snapshot", if you will, of the applicant, a way to get to know something more about them as a student and performer. Hope this helps!

LexisMom....geez, I just lost the entire post I wrote to respond to your inquiry but am gonna do it all again. Here goes....

Theatermom wrote you a great response and she should know because her D was a successful candidate at UM!

UM was the only school of the 8 BFA programs my D auditioned for this past year that required this Repertoire List and it was a bit of work to compile. I would not go back to third grade and list every song but roughly keep it to either significant songs or ones from middle school and up (like the teen years). I will share what my D did but with one disclaimer in that UM was the one BFA program where she was completely rejected, though I doubt it was due to her paperwork, LOL.

My D organized her list into categories. Within each category, she alphabatized the songs by the composer's name. Next to each song (along with composer first, then lyricist, then song title), she marked an M if memorized (frankly, every song had an M because if it was not memorized, she did not bother listing it) and a P if ever performed. So, all songs had an M and some songs also had a P next to it. The categories might not be the same for every kid. I find with things like this that you need to come up with categories that make sense with your own experiences so these would differ a bit from kid to kid. I will share how her list was organized and I suggest you make categories for your situation accordingly.

thanks for the info soovievt..i hope i spelled your screen name right:) i was just wondering even though i knpw this is an audition forum for 2006, but if anyone had an unified audition experiences to share before we kick off the year? just thought it would be fun.
-amy:)

Amy....my screen name is SoozieVT which stands for Susie who lives in Vermont. But for some reason when I registered to post on CC, and typed that name just the way I have now, it came out as all lowercase (soozievt) when I post and it looks so odd that I have gotten many posts asking me if I am either from the Soviet Union (nyet) or Vietnamese (nope) and so on. Nobody can spell it right. But it is easier if you see it the way it is meant to be SoozieVT. So, just call me Susan or Soozie. My name really is Susan and my husband calls me Suzy and he made up my screenname.

I hope some people will share about Unifieds with you. I have never been. But also you can do a search of that topic on the forum and see if you can find old posts on it, as I know people posted about them after going to them during the winter.

There are lots of helpful posters here who have experienced all these different facets of this process and can share their perspectives. So, stay on here next year!
Susan (in Vermont) :D

The audition dates have been announced for Baldwin-Wallace

I have a feeling that these dats are subject to change cause last year I'm pretty sure they added one during the fall cause of the amount of people auditioning. Hope to see some of you there!

Amy O - I talked about the unifieds in L.A. back in mid-Feb right the Feb. 12/13 auditions. I'm sorry I don't know how to give you a link to it, but if you have any questions, ask away. I learned a lot. I know when scheduling, it got a little rough and I had to change some times, but it all worked out. For the most part, the schools were pretty accomodating. One thing was that a few schools, at least in L.A., had 2 days (Sunday & Monday) of auditions. We scheduled CMU and BoCo on Monday which worked out nicely because those 2 schools both required a classical monologue so that after her round of auditions on Sunday, she could then focus on her classical.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

My daughter is a jr. and lives in O.C. so she is planning on the L.A. unifieds on Feb. 12. I do have a few questions as to how it is set up. I know (at least I think I do) that you have to call each individual school to set up for an audition and have sent in your application. How are the schools set up? Do you go to different booths and sing, dance, etc. or do you do it once for several schools. Do they interview you there. Do they give you any indication as to your acceptance? If you could explain the whole process it would be very much appreciated. I know the unifieds will be very important as we do live in O.C. and d is applying to several schools out of state.

Thanks mtfan for posting the BW dates! I'm glad to see this thread is already being put to use before this school year is even over! Thanks for the helpful info on the unifieds. I'm trying to read as much information as I can about them so I'm well informed.

Thanks again everyone for the helpful information:)

Michigan has posted their audition dates as well.

January 20th-Application in by November 1st
February 3rd-Application in by December 1st
February 10th-Application in by December 1st
March 10th-Application in by December 1st
April 7th-Application in by February 1st

Regionally:
February 7th-Application in by December 1st Chicago
February 8th-Application in by December 1st Chicago
March 4th-Application in by December 1st New York City

here's a question....when you send your application in, how long does michigan take till they let you know if you pass the "academic screening" and qualify for an audition?

I checked back in our files and my D submitted her Michigan application by Nov 1st (she wanted and ended up getting the mid January audition date) and she received e-mail notification on November 18th that she had been "approved to audition/interview for the School of Music" (their words).

Don't know if this turnaround was the same for everyone, but that was our experience. We're here to answer questions for anyone interested in the UM MT BFA. My D just finished her freshman year there and couldn't be happier.

It depends on the applicant. Most of the early applicants got their review early but my son did not until a week before the first audition date which he had requested and did get.
