matm1 that's a crazy HS gpa/SAT combination lol.

layla congrats on ur acceptance!!!!!!!Why d'u think u were accepted tho- did u have outstanding ECs, were u a pace setter at ur college, did u have outstanding and amzing recs? I dunno, I just feel like u shud tell us more of ur story cos something obviously made u stand out-

oh, sorry "columbia ultra sound lab" is definitely a plus- did u get a rec from there or sth?

Does anybody have stats on this year's admissions pool?

The lab made me stand out. I got a great recommendation from the professor because I did a lot of good work in that lab, including translating a medical consent form to Spanish which saved the lab 6 months time and $2500. I also worked with an algorithm for cardiac MRI scanning.

Also, I'm a girl who applied to SEAS. Big leg up there.

Yeah I know, I am awesome. I failed 9th and 10th grade. I never went to school. It bored me.

I knew a few kids like that--those ridiculous geniuses who were obviously too advanced for HS. One has a full ride at American now. It worked out.

Same exact thing here.

well congrats layla! gud luck in columbia!

Thank you very much. :)

I know its been said a million times, but congrats again layla

Thank you guys so much. This board has been my therapy, haha.

Holy crap now I know won't get in next year. 4.0/1580 REJECTED? What more do they want? That's especially scary because I too will apply for the East Asian Studies major.

Lane, remember that numbers are just disqualifiers. Clearly he did not get rejected because of the numbers (I think he applied for Junior standing, so the HS gpa probably didn't matter at all since his college GPA is perfect). Admissions are a crapshot. Keep that in mind, but keep working hard.

Transferring From: Carnegie Mellon University
State: PA
Major: Business/Poli. Sci
College GPA: 4.0/4.0 (5 courses/semester, including an independent study research course)
High School GPA: 89/100
SATs: 1540, SAT IIs weren't too good, around 700ish
Sophomore Standing/Junior Standing: Junior Standing (this is the 3rd time I applied!)
EA: Vice Chair of Campus Life Committee on Student Senate, Mock Trial (Spirit of Mock Trial Award), TA for a poli sci class, did a summer internship in Beijing last summer, got on a local newspaper, and wrote an Chinese article myself that was published too.
Decision: Rejected :( Damn Columbia, I feel like suitor going after her for 3 years with no avail! No matter, still waiting for Yale and Harvard.

To all of you who got accepted, I sincerely congrat you guys and wish you the best in Columbia! :) Enjoy New York, cause it is just awesome. Haircuts in Chinatown only cost $5, remember.

And for anyone interested in transferring, my advice to you is just make sure you work on your essay and reasons why you want to attend. I kinda B.Sed on those and I think this was why I got rejected. Now that I think about it, I didn't spend much time on Yale and Harvard too, oh shiiiii..........I knew my laziness on the applications was going to come back and bite me in the butt!
